Your right to choice in mental health - Patient choice - NHS Choices

What is meant by legal right to choice?

If you need to use mental health services for assessment or treatment, you have the legal right to choose which provider and team you're referred to by your GP for your first outpatient appointment.

Clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) provide mental health services for their communities. You have the right to choose any mental health service provider in England as long as they provide a similar clinically appropriate service to the one your local CCG provides.

There is much more on the website

Looked at this and it seems to me there is very little choice at all.

If you are already being treated for a condition you are stuck, if it is urgent or you are sectioned = no choice. And there are other exclusions. Also it has to be the initial request to be referred for a condition,,your GP has to agree to refer you, the, local CCG has to provide the service... And oh yeah you have to be well enough to research who is providing the service and is likely to be the best.option.
