Hi folks, I haven’t worked properly in some time but this week I start work on placement for my course. I’m nervous as! They promised to train me and said to ask if anything I don’t understand, but at the same time I don’t want to come across as an idiot. I’ve been literally having nightmares about it and shaking when I think about it. Does anyone out there just feel like they’re going to faint due to anxiety?

I've put in a few app's for work lately. Pretty exciting stuff until I got a couple of them, then.. panic set in. It's been 5 yrs for me. Still can't face going back.

About you though; I understand the anxiety, absolutely. But I think you're also lucky to ease back into the workplace via your course requirements. There'll be plenty of support plus, mistakes and lack of local knowledge are expected.

Maybe you could focus on a response/exit plan, if it gets too much I mean. I used to go to the loo and deep breathe for a while. If that didn't work I'd walk outside for a time then take PRN med's as a last resort.

Hope you've got some PRN. Maybe stick one in your wallet on the day.

I don’t actually have PRNs to take @LizBo . I wish I did but also glad I don’t as when I used to have them and was working, I fell asleep at work...really embarrassing! I’m nervous as anything today and feel physically ill. I figure in twenty four hours, my first day will be over. Only and six weeks and one day to go then.

Well I’m freaking out! My mentor is away sick and other staff are either off or working in different areas tomorrow. This means someone who is easily triggered by small children will be in charge of wrangling 30 kids. I wish I didn’t get so triggered!

good luck vanish, will it just be you on your own with 30 kids or will you have one person with you? One person for 30 kids is too many kids imo :panic::hug:

I will have one volunteer but they do not speak English so they won’t be able to understand my instructions. Usually there’s four people, but through nobody’s fault, I’m on my own. :panic::panic::panic:

how do they follow instructions normally if another staff tells them something? And if one of the kids says something to them in english, what happens?

A lot of the kids are bilingual as they are from similar backgrounds.

How does it feel to have the first day over and done with? Think you'll sleep better? I hope so, you deserve it!
