Told 3 people I wanted to kill myself. So they know and they still send me home.. I don't understand a thing..

I was so scared of telling them, and now it feels like a waste of time to even try..

I'm so sorry you've experienced that. I was in an emergency room and talked to a psych advisor and asked her what happens if they release me and I carry through on my plan? She told me "Do what you have to do"
I was floored...
It's harder and harder to find compassionate people even in crisis centers and counciling
I've run into a few but they are few and far behind
I had one therapist who told me she didnt want to see me "gorked out in the State hospital" which still tickles me and sadly is probably one of the most caring thing a therapist has said to me.
Try to hang in there and maybe see if there are crisis resources in your area to bypass the therapist...just a thought and I hope your care is handled by better people going forward

Unfortunately this has happened to me in the past, we are all alone in this world really and I used to think for years that someone in the professional field could help. They can to a degree, but after that we are back on our own again. A CPN once said that “we are all responsible for our own feelings” which is correct....but they don’t understand how much pain and agony we go through and it really stinks and it’s utter bollocks....but I did learn the hard way unfortunately.

The problems come when you cannot stop the feelings, keep attempting and keep finding yourself in front of a representative of a failing system. This happens to people over and over again for years, and some make it through to a basic existence, but so many don't and end up dead.

I say failing system, i should say a failing society. A society where the psychiatrist or CPN in front of you has a mental health problem too, or a problem in how they communicate. There are so many people with so many problems, that there aren't many who can offer pure help anymore. It was far better when i spoke to my gran and grandad as they were not only wise but they loved me too. It is a pity that they could not prescribe medication too.

I have been around the MH system long enough to know the ins and outs. If they committed everyone who ever had or shared thoughts of wanting to die, most people would be committed because most people have had them at one time or another.

Such thoughts should never be ignored or taken lightly but the truth is, you will only get committed if you indicate you have plans to carry out an act or they reasonably believe you will do so. If so then they are legally required to have you detained for care and observation so you don't harm yourself. But sharing a thought about wanting to die or saying you have had such thoughts is not going to get you committed in and of itself. They will inquire more to see the degree of the situation and if you are in imminent danger. For most people, they are just going to be general thoughts not specific plans.

One of my other most hated sayings I've heard a number of times in hospitals and therapists is "you have to be your own advocate"
It sounds all the world to me like a copout for health workers to pass the buck on caring or helping

Sorry this happened to you. It's really terrible that people are treated like that especially when it's so hard to ask for help. You did the right thing telling your therapist, it's a shame they reacted like that. I would say keep trying to find someone to talk to, don't let them put you off getting the help you need.

Sadly, even if you have plans they won't do anything apart from send you away home, they knew i had plans but still called me a time waster and sent me home in 2012 :sorry:

They ask me what my material was and what it would say to me if it could speak.. like wtf!

I said: Use me and still nothing. They said do you have plans? Do you have materials all my answers where yes.

Told them about overdosing they node and let me go home..

This system is so fucked up.. I don't even understand..
