When does "feeling down" become a real problem?

Aloha

I've just a couple of wee questions. I have been feeling pretty grim since about September or October time. This just manifested itself in maybe once every fortnight me having a really bad night where I would just lie in bed pretty inconsolable and weep a lot.

Lately though, this is happening more often and not just in my own home. I nearly broke down the other day in the paper shop for no real reason and I had to leave a gathering at work too for the same reason. I'm ticking a lot of the boxes for being depressed according to things I have been reading on the net. Over the past week I probably weep on at least 3 occasions a night and I have started scratching the insides of my arms pretty badly and hitting myself on the head and stuff.

I'm also not wanting to go out and socialise with people as I know one of these days I am just going to crumble in front of someone.

But anyway, am I just going through a small period of feeling blue or is there maybe something more serious? I just imagine people telling me to "get your act together" or "get out and do things", but it isn't that easy.

Sorry, too long and rambly I know! Just writing this has been a little cathartic though.

Hi Pencil

Sound like you are feeling depressed if it has been going on a while. Has anything happened recently to spark things off for you? I do the hitting myself thing (why i dont know) it is silly eh. Maybe you could try and go to the docs? Do you feel you could do that?

Anyway :welcome:

Relationship difficulties and just general feelings of lonliness have triggered this off I think, I am at the doctor on Wednesday for something else so I may mention it then. Bank balance can't keep up with all the Jaffa Cake buying I have been doing!

It could be depressed it could also be that you feel worse having a medical illness, giving you less energy and feeling less able to cope because of that.

Do say somthing when you are at the Docs next.......
