when did you start to realise that you have bipolar?

I too have psychotic episodes when in a depression. But still had the diagnosis of bipolar as it can get psychosis with it.
I think the difference is schizoaffective if you experience psychosis outside mood episodes too, and bipolar if it is only within mood episodes...

Unfortunately, I have to realize it every time an episode hits. When I'm in remission I start doubting that I have bipolar but the mania always comes back eventually to give me an unpredictably harsh reminder. It's becoming harder to deny it though as I've been getting older. The hypomanic meltdown that got me diagnosed when I was 19 doesn't quite compare to what I go through these days which is quite impairing and concerning if not frightening for others to be around. I scare myself enough to take this seriously now.
