What is depression?

Depression is having an incredible girl you've known for 12 years and loved greatly, pour her heart out to you outside of a train station, telling you how much she loves you and wants to be with you, for you to not really care or feel anything. Why wouldn't you feel anything? A few years ago you would have killed to be with her and now you just feel nothing..
There is an emptiness about your mind. There is an emptiness about your heart.
There is an emptiness about you.

I have tried all my life to understand depression and I'm still know where near sussing it out, as like everyone else I can feel good about myself and things but then in a split second I can be so down and depressed that it shocks me how quickly it can change.

It doesn't appear to be any one thing in particular but more like a whole bunch of things all converging.

This might be depression or it might not. Have you been diagnosed with depression?

My depression, when I was diagnosed many years ago, was sadness, anxiousness, uncertainty that would become so overwhelming that my behaviour would change. I would sleep 14 hours a day, I would sometimes drink far too much, I would work excessively cutting myself off form others or I would even just stare into space not caring what would happen to me. Now it is just a very uncomfortable feeling that I get now and then for maybe a few hours or maybe a day at the most.
