I go on walks in the spring summer, and fall but I don't get much exercise in the winter except from shoveling snow from the driveway. Well, my son works at a nature center where they rent out cross country skis and snowshoes for free and he encouraged me to participate in a 5k race yesterday. So I did it! I came in last place but I finished. My skiing abilities isn't what slowed me down, my heart is what slowed me down. I just don't have the stamina I had 30 years ago when I was young and could ski for miles and miles. I think the last time I went skiing was 25 years ago. I used to ski from my mother's back yard down through the woods to the river, then I'd ski up the river several miles to a club that had ski trails, then I'd ski the trails, and then finally ski all the way back home. There are shorter trails at the nature center. Maybe I'll try going skiing more often. Yesterday was a good day, but I am starting to get Sooooooo Soar.

HI Folks,

Well, as always, I workout to my fitness dvds, and also I am planning with a view to attend zumba and zumba gold classes, from when the Spring starts - just afterwards.

fairy lu, if you have trouble exercising you might want to try doing simple stretches everyday. even if it's not much it will get you used to moving your body more. I started with not doing much, I had a knee pop out of place a couple years back and it made it almost impossible to do any kind of physical activity. I had to wear a knee brace for 2 years and still deal with minor pain. stretching is stress reducing and is a lot less intimidating than a workout. I found a list of simple yoga stretchs and try to do as much as I can.

I used to be more active, but my job makes it really difficult due to the hours. Usually, I'll use the gym, run or go for walks. Occasionally, I'll play football, tennis, go swimming, go bowling, play badminton, and dance!x

Hi Fairy Lucretia,

Natalie (other user on the site) used to do chair-based exercises, which I think might be really helpful for you - you get to exercise more without having to leave your house if you don't want to! I'd message Natalie about it - it's definitely worked wonders for her!x

Much love <3

For some reason I’m considering a half marathon in September, so I guess I’d have to start running :)

Like Daniel, I like to go on long walks in the warmer months. I have been doing more walking recently - walk into town - get a bus back sort of thing.

It has been very cold recently and I have been living like a hermit.

I am at the gym again. I'm an obese person who cannot bear the gym, avoids mirrors and struggles with being around people. But for some reason this time, the gym has become something of a life saver in the last months. Am fortunate that I can choose when I go so can go when very quiet. I would like to walk, but my knees are very painful (arthritis) and I can't do it. Gym is helping to strengthen my muscles to help knees.
I over do it there, work hard to point of collapse sometimes, but it helps so much, mentally and physically and gives me routine, somewhere to go. I sabotage this effort by bingeing, but am pleased that am pushing self to work hard. It's become an overwhelming drive to "have" to do it.
I don't achieve anything in my life otherwise and get a feel of success if I get through my gym programme.
Also go to a mh yoga group when am up to it.

I follow a local walking group on Facebook. They did an 8-mile walk today. I feel envious of them.

I don't know why people do less walking in the winter, you just need the right clothes for it and less stops to keep warm if possible. I love the winter scenery. After quitting smoking I have turned up the dial on my exercise program, every day I either do a 1 hour run (well about 50% of it is walking at the moment, trying to build up to 100% running gradually), a 2 hour walk or a 1 hour dance workout. Have a day off every 3-4 days. Would more be over doing it? I feel like I could do more.
