I am super critical of my own appearance and wish to be beautiful. It is ..... vanity.

Yet I see regular people and I think they look fine, beautiful, natural.

What are your thoughts?

I really need your insight.

Is a question, is that your own beauty is for others to see, not for you??

I sometimes think I am fugly as hell, and other times I look okay

We are all beautiful X because we are all unique and important X

The world/media puts some much pressure on everyone to look a way because it sells products ... Wear this, use this, eat this, do this .... Ignoring that is hard in this media filled age...

What's important in kindness, love and understanding X

UH x

both really you want to look good for yourself and to attract others there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be attractive as long as its not the only thing you look for in a person this is the type of question people will say no appearance doesn't matter but will go out there way to do themselves up for another person on a date you wont get a truthful answer out of most people

No, even a 900 pound woman is attractive if she is kind, loving and understanding. The body is just a shell that hold a spirit/personality inside X

Top bold:
Absolutely impossible to quantify.

I see the people watching programmes like Love Island (and it appears in the bbc news top 10, so unfortunately I have to see it!

These men and women, all the men have 6 packs, and tans, and fake teeth etc.

Is this what you or I should aspire to?

(tbf, I do get jealous of men with nice teeth if not ridiculously obviously fake)

I have probably a body that would score 1/10 if there was some kind of app at scoring people! So I wouldn't complain if I looked better. This wouldn't be for other people though to show off, more to not look like a homeless pauper.

anyway, next bit is now important!!...

There was a really great phrase I read in my OU course, and it is absolutely related to your thread!!

I wish for the life of me I could remember it though, sorry! haha

I have it written down somewhere in my piles of paper, I'll look tomorrow

I'll not find it, so I'm going to have to write the gist of it, and someone might recognise (it was a woman)

the underlined bit is easiest part of the gist, the rest is complete guess, (and bold certainly isn't the right word, just first thing I could think of.

Everyday I wake and choose the clothing in my wardrobe for the purpose of expressing how I wish people to perceive or judge me.

I wish I could find it, not even with internet!!!, and a good one for your questions too! (though more clothes specific than general looks, it's the same principle)

-

p.s.

@pepecat . linking you in, and this is your geek territory, and the best chance I now think of to find the quote

-

p.s also burt , I've seen you on your youtube films, you look fine. I thought you were a regular guy :)

cant screw a personality, if the physical attraction doesn't exist its pointless attraction, is a key factor in a relationship

To save any argument, I can see the fault (and not the unquantifiable beauty scoring)

and it's this bold here:

i won't go that far we are all beautiful sure people can say beauty is subjective but we can all agree a 900 pound woman is not attractive
'we can all agree' is an assumption.

so the rest is just semantics about attractive/beauty/personality/inside person, etc. These aren't same things at all.

I look how I look I dont need to be a sheep and copy the latest fashion trend eg fashion to have dead straight hair? Amazing how many people have complemented me on my curls lately.
Once I showered and dressed bit of jewellery I am done ready for the day.
People seem to like my caring and warm personality that is more important to me.

When I was young I tried to be like how I saw others but nothing I did made me fit in.
Now its ok to just be me.

Your everyday acquaintances will accept your appearance as long as you don't go making any bold changes. If you make bold changes they will be noticed. How you react to any comments will also be noticed, it is human nature. The same will also probably apply to any long term relationship (simply because in time the person outweighs the physical appearance, and the physical attractiveness becomes instilled in that person's sub-conscious, you don't generally notice the toll that time takes on someone's appearance). The only time you really need to make a effort are interviews and forming personal relationships, or to put it another way when first impressions count. How many times do you see people make that special effort for these very purposes ;)
