What’s it like to be free from depression?

As someone who’s suffering from depression and anxiety, I’m finding it really hard to believe that it’s actually possible to escape it, but I know it’s cause of the depression that I’m struggling to believe I can be free of it. So I wanna those who have managed to get out of depression: What was it like trying to get better? What does it feel like to live life after having just gone through depression? And how long did it take to get better?

My hope is that in reading any answers to these I can get a better understanding of what kinda life I need to aim for. I feel that if I have a better understanding of the end-goal, it’ll be easier to carve my path towards it.

Also little bonus question that isn’t really much to do with the topic of this post: Are therapists in the UK actually helpful? Cause I’ve had multiple friends who’ve been to therapists and found them to be useless, so I’m not sure if its worth going to a therapist.

In My Mind
It's hard. I have schizophrenia, depression and anxiety. I'm taking anti-psychotics to control the schizophrenia but it has it's negative effects on me.

This is my best advice and I should take this advice too.

Get fit. I'm not talking about going for a short brisk walk. Like build up to running 3 mile 3 times a week at a fast pace and even run further, lose weight if you need too. This really turned my life around once getting fit and I recommend it to everyone.

If your already exercising, my apologies.

Best of luck.

its been a long road of 35 years
searching and searching for recovery

now I'm not exactly well in the sense of being able to work
but I'm not so much depressed these days,
ive gone into anxiety a bit
but its great to not wake up feeling depressed

finding a good therapist is diffulct but not impossible,
I think if you are looking for therapy
keep in touch with us here about it
to make sure its going in a helpful direction

I don't know what it is like to be free of depression. I have been depressed for so long, I have no idea what it is like to be normal.
