Our service caters for the needs of individuals recovering from, or living with mental illness. We aim to provide accommodation for single people with mental health problems; to support them in attaining greater independence and achieving their potential; to assist in their resettlement where possible and enable them to move on to more appropriate long term housing.

What do we offer?

  • Accommodation: providing good quality furnished accommodation which is comfortable and safe.
  • Support: helping new clients settle into the accommodation; being available to discuss day-to-day problems as they arise for clients; advising clients on financial and practical issues in relation to their housing, including payment of rent and claiming benefits; acting as advocates for clients, and ensuring they are linked to the local support services as appropriate; providing support in the learning and re-learning of living skills such as shopping, cooking and cleaning; encouraging and guiding individuals to develop a structure and pattern to their lives which will help them cope with their mental health problems and attain greater independence in their life; help settling into the accommodation
  • Move-On and Resettlement: assist clients in finding more appropriate long term accommodation; assisting with preparation and planning for the move and with the actual move where needed; and providing support to the client for a limited period following the move.

To use our services you must be:

  • between the ages of 18 and 65
  • homeless or otherwise in housing need, suffering from mental health problems
  • supported by the local Community Mental Health Team
  • in need of support but with help and guidance be able to carry out the following: take responsibility for their own medication, maintain a reasonable standard of hygiene, cater for themselves and be prepared to work with staff on achieving personal potential in line with an agreed support plan.

Garden Minders provides a pathway to training and employment for people with mental health problems, and offers a valuable service to the community in Worthing. The project provides quality gardening services at competitive prices to clients in Worthing and the surrounding areas.

Garden Minders provides:
  • Opportunities to work and train on a voluntary basis
  • Regular paid work on a sessional basis
  • Benefits advice to ensure people can maximise their income
  • A supportive working environment
  • Plenty of fresh air and exercise
  • The opportunity to provide a valued service to the community
