Okay so here it goes, I'm currently ill with tonsillitis been prescribed antibiotics by the GP which I can't even bring myself to take... I can't even explain why I'm just scared that I'm going to have an allergic reaction to them(no known allergies) I'm in a panic I haven't even taken a paracetamol even tho I'm in ridiculous amounts of pain😩 I've been admitted to hospital previously with complications of tonsillitis(quinsy) and I cannot be like that again! Please help how do I bring myself to take them

Hi Carlyxx,

first of all, you can adapt to taken paracetamol. You can buy over the counter soluble to be made up into a drink, paracetamol, i can't name drop which I take, and works very well for me, though I just am unable to take pills, i am just about managing to take capsules.

For your anxiety, I would go back to your GP, and say you get anxious, in respects of taking, they can probably prescribe, or seek a referral for anxiety medication, for you to also take.

i hope that helps.

Welcome aboard to MHF.

Best wishes.

And say to the GP, that you get anxious over taking the tablets of paracetamol.

I understand your fears of complications but the steps you are taking at the moments are more likely to lead to complications by Not taking the antibiotics.
Paracetamol especially the soluble type can help with the pain and the general feeling of being ill and the antibiotics can stop the tonsils becoming septic leading to quinsy.
Remember that tonsillitis is a very very common illness which is treated very easily. What you are doing at the moment is prolonging your suffering and potentially making your illness worse.

If your doctor has prescribed the antibiotics then you really should not worry at all.

If in doubt please if in the UK go to a walk in center or call for an out of hours appointment so that your doctor can reasure you that you will be OK.

Tonsillitis makes us feel really ill and it is something that you can nip in the bud by taking the treatment that has been prescribed to you.
