I went to one run by my CMHT some years ago. I can't remember exactly what we did, discussed things as a group, learnt self help techniques, stuff like that. I guess it was kind of nice to be able to say things that might shock 'regular' people without being judged and being more understood. I think it was about 8 sessions with an occupational therapist and psych nurse. It was a small group and most people didn't come to all sessions.
The best thing was I gave my phone number out and got two replies from it, started going for coffee with two ladies, one jumped ship, but I've made a friend for life. Although we're utter crap at keeping in touch, covid has got us out of our meet up habits.

Well that's one plus point at least. I don't think I'd be very good at meeting people because of anxiety but I do want to mingle more so with people that are like me and I do need to force myself to do things. I just don't like the idea of them from what bits I've read as they sound like they'd be all things that make me anxious. I had a look earlier today and there don't seem to be any near me either 😕

Yeah, I’m a generally anxious person, but it was ok. The other people were strange and unusual, lol. I didn’t feel like the odd one out like I normally do. The facilitators did a lot of the talking, they’re obviously used to anxious types. Or at a bipolar group, used to people taking over and talking too much, lol.
I was just lucky to meet my friend, we get on really well, it’s totally ok to be ourselves, to be inconsistent, likely to cancel at the last minute etc.

See, that part of it, the idea that people will be like me (not necessarily strange or unusual, but certainly ploughing my own furrow at times!) appeals to me a lot. It's the typical life and expectancies and way of being that I feel I would have most trouble with so I reckon I would be okay once I'd taken that step. And I'm just not sociable at all but I want to be. I need to be. But, alas...I don't know of any Bipolar specific groups anywhere near me yet. I thought about doing something a bit broader like a general mental health support group but you could end up with anything and I reckon the mixture could be a bad one potentially.
