Sorry, forgot all about your second sentence by the time I'd finished reading! Oops.
No worries! Sorry that was a long read, I rambled a lot. I was not well at all that day and my thoughts were all over the place. Going to my appointment now.

Hello guys. I just got done with my appointment. My psychiatrist said it sounds like I’ve been going through psychosis for a while (3 months). I’ll continue to take lamotrigine 150mg and he prescribed Abilify to take as needed. He suggested to avoid eating bread, sugar and processed food. I’ve tried several different antidepressants since I was 13 years old and haven’t had a lot of luck with them, so he suggested that I do TMS at this point and is going to have the TMS specialist call me. He also will be seeing me every week for the next month or so, or at least until I am somewhat stable.

Another update: I visited with my psychiatrist on Tuesday. He was almost 30 minutes late to the appointment and only visited for about 10 minutes if that. I noticed when I communicated my concerns he didn’t seem to be listening fully or already had a predetermined disposition about everything. He seemed to be in a bad mood. At one point he even told something I was experiencing was just me trying to get attention.. which was hurtful because that’s the last thing I’m trying to do. I tried to take it with a grain of salt because I am over emotional lately. I’ve been exercising and eating somewhat better and have noticed minor improvements but I’ve been cycling through moods really fast within a single day. I’m mentally exhausted and I think everyone close to me is too. Not really sure what to do once again.

Hey Babygorilla,
Just saw this.
Sounds like your psychiatrist was having personal problems. He was late and only saw you for 10 minutes and was dismissive. Hum. Not great.
Did you get a prescription for kolonopin?
It seems that would help you in the short term as it had before.
Keep on talking with us here. When do you see him again?

Not to tell you what to do but that eating plan he described is so important.
A variation of it, was invented in the 1920's for kids with epilepsy.
It only makes sense it would help all brain disorders.
I use it for pain as an anti inflammatory diet.
Basically it's the ketogenic diet although I'm not that strict with it.
It does help with clearer thoughts and more energy.

Im sorry things didn't go your way but when is your next appointment?
Has Abilify helped you?

I let him know that kolonopin helped me in the past but he doesn’t like to prescribe it. I haven’t noticed any change with the Abilify yet, he said it can take a few weeks to see any improvement so I’m going to stick it out and hope for the best. I’ll see him again in two weeks.

i don’t mind being told what to do at this point 😂 I didn’t know that diet was used to help epilepsy and pain, it’s good to hear from someone first hand that it works and is helping them. I eat a lot of meat but not enough fruit and veggies so I have added those to the list for my next grocery trip. I’m trying to stick to that diet as closely as I can, I struggle with it when I’m depressed and don’t want to eat and when I’m busy so I’m going to try meal prepping to take some of the time and stress out of it. What kind of meals do you eat?

Babygorilla, Hi. Really frustrating about how your Psychiatrist was with you. I have had all appts with mine over the phone, they have lasted no more than 10-15 minutes and I could hear I was on speaker phone and him tapping away at the computer/rustling papers. As part of a general rant to my MH worker, I explained this. Then the last time the Psychiatrist called he was actively listening, clarifying things I had said to other people in the team and asking questions that didn’t just relate to medication. He did make some medication changes, but fully explained why he was doing so. He said he would call me in a month for my next appointment, rather than the usual three. So, perhaps you need to make some noise? Is there anyone you can talk to in the hope that it will make a difference to his treatment of you?

Well, you asked so....
I eat really easy, some would call it plain meals as I am alone and don't have to worry
about other people.
Lots of vegetables although I'm not at all against meat; stomach issues due to stress and tons of OTC pain meds like ibuprofen for years...(.Nevermind it's expensive to buy good meat)

On a normal day, I start with olive oil, chopped up potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, portobello mushrooms, salt and red pepper flakes. Sautée that up, stir in 3-4 beaten eggs or just over easy and chunks of goat cheese rolled in blueberries and let that rest a few minutes. Wilt a bunch of baby spinach on top. That's enough for both lunch and supper.

I'm not sure how that sounds but it's delicious. I also make a small bread with almond flour topped with peanut butter. Other than coffee, just plain water.
Basically I cut out all packaged foods, sugar, white flour and white rice.

I have a lot of pain. This helps. It also keeps extra weight from my body and spine naturally.
As one detoxes from crap food your mind becomes sharper and clearer.
Also one does not need as much food either. Sugar is addicting and terrible, I've learned.

I never knew this about diet, it’s good to know. My therapist looks at his computer screen a lot when we’re talking. I think he is looking up my past notes, but it drives me crazy. I’ve been seeing him for at least 10 years, so I don’t want to change. I love my psychiatrist though, he is often late making it to the appointment, but he gives me total attention. I guess that’s why he is always running behind. I will hate it if he retires. I am on a lot of meds, and it really helps me, abilify is one of them. I hope the medication changes will help you. You seem to be doing all you can to help yourself, so you can give yourself a lot of credit for that.

Hi CabbageMama. I’m glad that your psychiatrist has been better about being attentive to you and taking time to explain things! Mine are over video chat now and I noticed last time it looked like he may have looked at someone else a few times which made me uncomfortable because it looks like he is working at home and I know he has a wife and a child that’s either a teen or a young adult. What does your MH worker do and how did you get one? If he does the same thing next time I will say something. I’m not really sure who I would talk to about it.

JeanPierre that all sounds really good! I’m hungry now. I will add some of those things to my grocery list. Have you cut meat out of your diet at this point? If so, how has that made you feel?

Gratefultobewell that is frustrating. 10 years is a long time so I can see why you don’t want to switch to someone new, it’s hard to build a relationship and trust with someone new. That’s great that your psychiatrist is attentive! Thank you, I guess I should give myself some credit for finally trying. How long have you taken Abilify and do you remember how long it took to see a difference? Did you experience any side effects?

It’s taken 9 months and me ranting and raving on a phone call to the MH worker, but I got there eventually! 😂 The MH worker has unfortunately just retired and there is a waiting list of over 80 people to be assigned to somebody else’s caseload, so I have lost that focused support now. She took pity on me, because I was calling frequently and there were so many Duty workers that I got someone else every time I called and there was no consistency. She felt she could make a difference before she left (although didn’t tell me she was going at the time!) so asked her Manager if she could take me. She called me for an hour every Monday, which I found mostly really helpful and grounding. I’m in the UK, Babygorilla, so it is part of the NHS. The MH service here is free, people can opt for private treatment, but it is expensive.
