Those with BPD - Have you ever found yourself thinking that you're dying (hypochondria)?

I seem to get this quite often. When I was about 11, I thought I had cancer for about 4 months. I went to the doctors and he told me that there's nothing wrong, but it didn't make a difference. I thought I was dying, and I cried everyday for months. About 2 months ago, I started getting chest pains and I had trouble breathing. Again, in my head I was 100% sure that I had either cancer or heart disease. I went to the doctors and he told me that it was stress and that I was hyperventilating. I still thought that I was dying, so I had blood tests and they came back fine. Now, I'm having trouble breathing and I'm really, really scared. Does anyone else experience this kind of thing?

It might be anxiety. But I know what you mean. I have had real obsessional thoughts in the past about being seriously ill.

Any time i have any symptoms i usually google it and the worst case senario is always the one i fixate on. i think when you suffer from any kind of depression you have a tendancy to look on the negative side of things. (well i do)

I am the same with my kids, if they have any rash, headache, bruises i think the worst. im such a worrier. i think it is anxiety based.

have you tried cbt for this. x

Yup. Anytime I get an ache, pain, cough or whatever, I immidiately think I have some form of severe illness and that I'm going to die. And even when the doctor says things are okay, I then think "what if im the only person ever to have some rare undetectable disease?" and stuff. It's to do with anxiety, I have severe anxiety disorder. You should try getting some help with it :)

You're not alone. And I wish I could take it away for all of you but sadly it's just a part of Bipolar.

I suffer with absolutely terrible back pain, chest pain and headaches/dizzyness. Over the past six months I have been to numerous specialist, replaced my mattress, had chest scans Xrays, bloodtests, etc, etc.

And there's nothing wrong with me.

It's basically because you have bipolar. Back pain is a common symptom as it's from hyper tension and stress. As are most of the other aches and pains.

And yeah, I worry my ass off about all of it. I'm 35 and have gray balding hair aswell as puffy baggy eyes with liver spots all over my face. I look 50+

Again, in my head I was 100% sure that I had either cancer or heart disease.
A week into December I was rushed to the hospital with a suspected heart attack. Now I thought I had lung cancer as I had been suffering terrible chest pains for about a month. I had Xrays, bloodwork, scans, etc etc. Absolutely nothing wrong with me.

However, it did do one thing. I have been a pretty heavy smoker for 20 years and they brought in an old man with CPD. I have not had a cigarette since. So hey, at least me worrying has helped me give up smoking.

hey,

This is probably going to sound wrong but... Be happy that your anxiety gets you to a point where you see value in living since you worry about the opposite.

Not only do I have Bipolar and Anxiety disorders, I am gifted with a personality disorder. Due to it, I don't believe I can't suffer from these life threatening issues. I can certainly feel the pain, but my only options are suffer or get better. So, while it sounds like a extra to not fear these, my life lacks the value that others have. I'm unable to seriously be concerned about demise.

Wow, that sounded dumb but I think I said what I wanted to. Basically, I envy others who value themselves enough to seek care, either needed or not.
