Abstract
BACKGROUND:

Co-morbid psychiatric disorders affect prognosis, psychosocial adjustment and post-surgery satisfaction in patients with gender identity disorder. In this paper, we assessed the frequency of personality disorders in Iranian GID patients.
METHODS:

Seventy- three patients requesting sex reassignment surgery (SRS) were recruited for this crosssectional study. Of the participants, 57.5% were biologically male and 42.5% were biologically female. They were assessed through the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory II (MCMI- II).
RESULTS:

The frequency of personality disorders was 81.4%. The most frequent personality disorder was narcissistic personality disorder (57.1%) and the least was borderline personality disorder. The average number of diagnoses was 3.00 per patient.
CONCLUSION:

The findings of this study revealed that the prevalence of personality disorders was higher among the participants, and the most frequent personality disorder was narcissistic personality disorder (57.1%), and borderline personality disorder was less common among the studied patients.

Seems to me this reflects Islamic/psychiatric biases towards transsexuals. To my mind an example of how pdocs often throw objectivity out of the window and opt for using their personal subjective views about their patients instead.
The idea that 81.4% of transsexuals are personality disordered is quite frankly the height of stupidity.

It's an interesting discussion. To my mind, the very idea of rebelling against your gender to the extent that you declare yourself transsexual does imply a large degree of self centredness. It's not totally out of the question that you might diagnose that as narcissistic pd.

But I do think that trans people deserve to be treated with a lot more respect than to be automatically labelled as suspected narcissists. Most of them that I've known (not many) haven't displayed the manipulative behaviours that a real narcissist has. And it can be a very difficult condition to have.

I don't get what you mean here? Lots of trans people said they knew when they were about 4 that they were in the wrong body. How is it narcissism?
