It makes a lot of sense to me personally. Some foods like carbohydrates are very comforting, sugar also gives you a temporary high, and I've had several semi-psychotic episodes after periods of dieting.

Interesting tip about fermented food helping gut microbiome diversity - so eat your sauerkraut and kimchi.
