Sometimes when you are having tactile hallucinations it can be easy to be seduced into extending ones senses beyond that of the body, so that you start to “feel” the space around you. I just wanted to say that from a mindfulness perspective this is a really bad idea, if you can focus just on the body and keep that nailed down you will be in a much better place.

I know of a few people with tactiles, and it can be a difficult thing. The tactiles can confirm what voices are saying and make the whole experience that much more ‘real’.

But I’ve found that staying hydrated helps with being “in the body”, that sometimes a stiff double whiskey can help you stay relaxed, that sometimes a large fruit juice is beneficial. Mindfulness of the body is what it’s all about, and not feeling what the body is not.

The sense of feeling your body can be quite different in shape on different levels of energy. It’s best not to think or read on about it too much I believe. Just to focus your being and understanding on the physical body, this body which we live our lives in.

Sometimes I find the body scan meditation to be very handy.

I find that the area below the crotch is energetically kinda weak, and the soles of the feet are another vulnerable spot. The head is sensitive but the upper body is well protected, excepting routes to the forehead. So tactiles tend to start in other places, at least with me.

A little alcohol changes your perception of the body, limiting you more to the skin. Which can be a great relief.

The other thing I would mention is that there are a few special positions, such as the foetal position and the on-the-back-with-arms-on-chest pose, which have special significance. If you can observe your tactiles in those positions and find them minimal you may notice it hasn’t penetrated through to your core.
