Hello everyone.

Not having the best start to the new year. I was in temp employment as a receptionist but the work has dried up and I was supposed to be starting somewhere else but that role got cancelled so I am unemployed now with zero income and no entitlement to benefits.

Also my gran died a few days ago and the funeral is soon. So I've been feeling pretty rubbish about that.

I just honestly don't feel like doing much. I was struggling with anxiety before Christmas due to my finances but I just don't have the motivation to do anything about it now. I'm also studying a course online and can only just manage to study the bear minimum of that before I feel exhausted by everything.

I was only working part time before in an undemanding job but since that finished I feel soo much more tired than I did when I had to get out my bed early. I was wanting to try get into a routing of getting up early so my sleep patterns could be better, but now I don't even care if I'm sleeping in middle of the day.

If sucks feeling like this 😔

Hello, Orchid..

I’m sorry you are so low. I can relate...money is such a strong factor in our mental state, dang it. Even if we don’t live extravagantly, when we’re broke it’s very disconcerting, and those emotions can pile up, for sure.

I suggest applying for a couple jobs every day, and you’ll feel better and hopefully find something! In the meantime, get lots of sleep if you want. You aren’t working, use that time to rest, drink lots of water, eat healthy, journal.

Check around for therapists with good fees/sliding scales. They will undoubtedly work with you to help you find support that’s nore “professional.”

Hugs! Keep us posted!

I'm sorry your gran died. Of course you will be melancholy for awhile. My mom died September 24 and I still have moments of sadness, moments of missing her. Perhaps it is good timing that you have no work ??

Thank you all.

Sorry for your loss as well poppy doll.

Yes you are probably right as I would of had to take time out of work if I was employed and my recruitment agency would not pay me unless it was a holiday unfortunately.

I actually pushed myself to have a look on some job sites today and seen some jobs that sounded OK. It's just I've been applying for more stable work for months now and get no replies back from anyone. So I have to rely on recruitment agencies that only provide very short term work but pay very little.

*Deep breaths* Your gran is smiling warmly at you...and her love will fill you up. I’m sorry you’ll miss her. This is the hardest fact of life.

Yay, job interview! I hope it’s not cleaning apartments in your underwear while the clients watch! Don’t take it if it is. Unless it pays reeeeeeeally good.

I wanna sleep sleep sleep, and take hot shower after hot shower. Anything that’s comforting, right?

Seeing a therapist on Wed. I’m excited to take steps in mellowing out this brain ball of mine. Stay strong, keep hunting, and yet remember that you do what you can do, and then let it happen as it will. :)

Hi :)

I am sorry for your loss, and I hope you are feeling somewhat better since you first posted this.

I just wanted to respond to say that I've been exactly where you are, and to put it lightly it's a shitty situation. Being unemployed really affects our mental and emotional health, especially for those who suffer anxiety or depression.

When I was unemployed for awhile, all I wanted to do was sleep and then waste time doing nothing. I lost motivation and all sense of a routine that I once had, and it was really hard to find the will to even care enough to fix it. Money, in this case lack of it, is really hard to deal with. People say money isn't everything, but it makes one heck of a difference when the money isn't flowing in at a rate where we can feel stable and mentally sane. It really makes us feel useless and worthless when we can't afford to do or buy simple things, things that are necessities.

I began studying as well, to try to get me back in the groove of things. It worked for a little while, but then I started working again I lost the will to study. I just can't ever find the balance...

Anyway, just wanted to say that I can relate and I hope you're able to find some light out of all of this. Hoping also that a job comes out of your recent interview!

Thanks Liza I hope your therapy session goes well.

Hey somedaymaybe. It sucks doesn't it, I'm literally so exhausted from doing nothing! The agency are going to put me forward for a job so hopefully I will get an interview out of it. It's not long term but honestly I just need some sort of routine and cash again even if its just for a couple of months. Hopefully by then I'll be more motivated to find something even longer term. Yeah finding balance is hard, honestly I'm so tired right now I'm barely studying, I'm hoping if I start working soon it will give me a kick up the butt to start doing it on a more regular basis rather than a quick revision when I can be bothered lol. What were you studying? Do you think you'll get back into it again?

I know, it's bizarre how doing nothing can cause so much fatigue!

That's good news, I hope it works out. Even a temporary job is a good start, it may lead to something more long-term, or set you towards something more permanent. Either way, it'll put some money in your account and it'll hopefully help you build up your energy and motivation again.

I am studying business administration; not so much to find a job in that field, but just to gain a certificate to hopefully pursue something else in the future. I've got to start back at it early February, which I'm not looking forward to, but I just keep telling myself that it's something important for my future. It's taking me a lot longer to complete because I lose interest and energy for it very quickly, lol.

Ugh interview been postponed for another week so that has set off my crappy mood even more :( I just want to stop worrying about money but it's hard when I was so close to getting something now having to wait longer when my bills are due soon :(

Once you get going again with the studying I'm sure you'll fall into a routine and be OK with it :) I've been trying to set aside a bit of time everyday into my course, even if I'm exhausted I try to allocate an hour. I usually find 3 hours later I'm still on the computer lol. It's just getting started that's worse than the actual thing. Same with exercise as well I guess haha
