When i woke up one morning, i found scars across my chest and i was told that i had been digging my nails in at one side of my chest and clawing to the other side. Its been a week and there still there. How do i stop myself from doing this?

I have no idea Meekin! I haven't heard of this before...

Have you mentioned this to your doc/pdoc?

I grind my teeth in my sleep, maybe it's a similar thing, could you be dreaming? Definitely mention it to your doctor x

Stuart does have a good logical argument there.

Maybe you are having bad dreams and your body just reacts. I have done this before, went to bed with socks over my hands! I don't really know how to stop it though, sorry.

I did this just last night, I've got a big scratch down mu face and one down my chest. I pull my hair out in my sleep quite a lot. I'm going to mention it next time I see psych so I'll let you know. I'd be glad to hear of any cure/reason.

everything i read said it was some sort of sleep walking thing but is not that common and is not alot about it on the internet also for some is linked to drams altho you may not remeber the dream the dream at the time may have triggerd an urge to self harm wich is why it is in your sleep this is a idea someone posted on a blog that they read of something factual unfortunetly they dident post a link hope this helps if it is simler for you

Hi Jason,

I wring my hands and grind my teeth in my sleep- but I suppose that is more of a definite stress related reaction. What you describe sounds like quite serious harm. As previous posters say, it could be a reaction to a bad dream. If this was the case, then the bad dream may themselves have been a reaction to you being uncomfortable at night (if my sheets are a bit creased, or pyjama bottoms digging in at the waist). I find that the case for me sometimes.
Practicality wise, although wearing gloves at night or something else to cover you hands seems a bit strange at first it would definitely eradicate the physical damage!

I agree that it would be worth going to your GP about this. Best of luck Meekin

i dont really no it is what i read but i did see someone on youtbe who pulls his hair out in his sleep who has tred gloves and he said he dosent no what happens there just not on in the morning he also did the same with handcuffs and put the key away from him put still they where not on in the mornng because he was taking them of in his sleep so what id recomend is going to your doctor befor you try this to prevent it falling and ending up with more cuts or less hair to the person who said they pull there hair out when you stop how long usally dose it take to grow back
