Self EMDR - speed / intensity of machine

Hi,

So i am currently receiving EMDR through a therapist, and that is going slowly but surely.
I also bought myself an EMDR machine for home usage, which i have occasionally used for simpler topics, or a continuation of a session when it is safe.

(I have not told my therapist i am using the machine given i have seen / heard the reactions therapists generally have to this and how its generally seen as a threat to their skills - but i am aware people do self EMDR - i.e. i have done broad homework)

I have one question though, i have a sense of how the speed / intensity may work in EMDR, but i would like some clarification / explanation from someone who knows better

thanks

I have just started a thread about EMDR johnram.,
asking about it.

I have no experience.
Could you let me know anything about it and also the
machine you have.

hi polly, i have been offline for a bit

i wouldnt recommend doing it solo without a therapist, you really need to see how the therapy session works and then buy and replicate some safer parts of it at home

it could be risky

i think you can do it at home, but i gave up as i needed to be "held" in the environment

Thanks John,
I appreciate your reply.

I wouldn’t have used anything without seeing a therapist.

How is the therapy going.
Have you been doing it long.

I don’t know anything about it really but it sounds intense
and a. bit scary from what I have read.

Hope everything goes well for you, Polly. X

my simple answer is, i think EMDR is wonderful, well it has been for me.
I was at the right place and space for it but also happily admit felt it was a last shot in some manners

Look on youtube for videos by Pooky on EMDR, she is a london based mental health advocate but also has videos on her own experience, i found them illuminating
