I have never been told by a professional that lithium can be harmful. Ive just seen it mentioned on here.

I get blood tests once in a blue moon.

I am slightly worried about all this???

lithium can be harmful if it goes over a certain level which is why you need blood tests every 3 months (once your level is stable) - you should have been told this by whoever put you on it

i didnt know about the record books or anything like that though

Where can I find information like this for Depakote/Valporate Semisodium and Sodium Valproate ? Because blood tests are needed for these also.

I was on epilim (sodium valporate) for 4 years and never had a blood test. Been on Depokate for 7 months and not had a blood test either for it. I have read that blood tests should be done.

Blood tests for Depakote/Epilim need to be done periodically for liver function - I think it is most important during the first 6 months of treatment, to see if the drug affects liver function. Saying that I never had them when I was on Depakote either! I did have prolactin levels tested though on olanzapine.

Might be good idea just to request routine LFTs if you are on valproare next time you see the GP.
