Hi there all! Im so glad to be here but Im sad that it has taken such desperation and fear to do it. Does anyone suffer from these 2 forms? I hate the number 6! I have to do repeating rituals constantly. Anyone?

I want to talk about this thing that has affected me but I cant even write it because Im so afraid I will have to repeat it. Ok...here it goes. I was traveling this past week. We were going through security and all of the bins were numbered with 3 numberes...all the way to 999. I was talking to God in my mind and praying that I wouldnt get one with 3 of the number 6. Well luckily, I didnt but in all the possible combinations the guy in front of me got 066. Not 077 or 088, but 066. I feel like I caused this to happen and that everything I do now is cursed. I feel like I caused it. No one else had numbers like that. Im so frightened and I feel as I must travel back there and go through the line again and not get those numbers. I begged God for me not to see them. But yet, there they were. Im so depressed and so filled with anxiety I havent been able to get out of bed. Anyone experience anything like this?

Yes, I have to do rituals, such as touch things a certain amount of times before proceeding into rooms etc.

It's an extreme form of anxiety, where you feel you can't control your environment and what happens to you, so your mind makes up tasks to perform (which you can control) to ward of events (which you cannot). Eventually a tenuous link occurs between the two, and you feel uncomfortable not doing the rituals.

These rituals often take the form of doing things a certain amount of times, with certain numbers seeming to hold a particular significance, positively or negatively. Usually, odd numbers are the ones unfavoured, as they represent disorder and uncertainty, but personally significant numbers (such as 6) can also play a part.

The fact that you think you caused certain events happening reflects your reliance on your system.

It's not really any different from having a 'lucky' item, or touching a rabbit's foot (not very lucky for the rabbit).

Everyone has this tendency to a certain extent, but not everyone develops OCD.

Whilst not specifically OCD-related, this article makes me think that the reasoning behind OCD is related to the situation of merely being human, as expecting bad things to happen conferred an evolutionary advantage in pre-history.

I think the only real way to lessen the feelings is to either ignore them (but this could make the anxiety worse), relax, take your mind off it, or certain medications.

By the way, when you say 'bins', I'm not quite sure when you mean?

The little tray you put your things in airport security is what they mean by bin I believe.

you didn’t cause the number and the number did not confer harm to the man in front of you. My dad always reminds me that if I had the power to change outcomes on a whim or to make things magically happen by thinking about them then we’d be rich and famous. The point being of course that we’re not, because I can’t cause things with my mind. Nobody can. Which is a good thing! Coincidences happen, but they don’t have to mean anything. Someone just so happened to put bin 066 in that line that morning, way before you showed up or thought about it. Over time lots of people have seen or used that bin, and I’m sure it’s not done a thing to them.

The buses I go one have 3 numbers.

Once I was going through a lot of spiritual stuff then the bus that turned up was numbered with those three number we don't like.

I was like "are you joking me????!"

But I saw the bus driver and he is the bus driver who is usually there at that time of day on that day of the week so I just got on the bus. Everything was fine.

This sort of stuff happens to me. It has been happening for many many years.

(I don't have OCD though. I don't have compulsions...)

And it’s like maybe his usual bus broke down that morning and then he saw his replacement and was like “really? No ones gonna get on my bus today great” lol. But then everything was fine. I mean it’s like normal to NOTICE those things. But we also have to know that they realistically don’t mean that something bad will happen.

I remember once I made a gaming account which had the 666 number between the numbers ID, and I basically freaked out and had to make a new one and struggled a lot to come with any username I could agree with, luckily the second attempt didnt come with these numbers ID.

The fact is that If it would be before my major depression I would find it cool, which makes me believe our current emotions play a big role in all this.

I believe we shouldn't worry about harming others with something we didnt intent to. Let's suppose that there is a magic that could harm people with numbers. I believe something so powerful would be guarded and probably have a safe lock so it couldnt be uses by mistake to hurt others. So by believing it can happen also think about the odds of existing another force keeping them safe from it and keeping you safe from what isnt supposed to harm you or them

Thank you all for answering with such great insight. Not to reiterate but what scared me is that the bins were all mixed up, #875 then #320, then maybe 543 etc. So when i saw so many people going through, I told God "surely I wont get the bin with 3 6's" . What are the odds? But then the guy in front of me getting 066 just freaked me out. Now how can I repeat it? I cant go back there and repeat the same action hoping that I or the guys in front or back of me wont either. You cant act all crazy when you are traveling like that. Security doesnt like that sort of thing.

Im afraid to fly and I feel as if God let that happen. Oh why couldnt it be 430 or something? My bin was 835, so why did that number with 66 in it have to be there? I feel doomed.

You’re fine! Quote just puts what we said before your reply so we know who you’re responding to
