Pure 'O' OCD - a problem with moving on with a life of sorts

Hiya, I suffered both excruciatingly and constantly with a rare form of OCD - namely Pure 'O' - wherein for all of my teen years and my twenties and a few of my early thirties years my intrusive thoughts about everything and anything going horrendously askew took up every single second of my life - that was, by now at the age of thirty-four, a twenty-two year disaster owing to OCD, and I want to know if any other people who have suffered with the illness might have come out the other side because of the right kind of medication only to realise that their life and friends have for the most part passed them by and that, as a result, the bitterness, etc. is eating them up inside. I just don't have a clue how to get over this, and I think I am now suffering from depression. Thanks for taking the time to read. Brian :)

Just want to say hi and welcome you to the forum. :)

I don't have OCD but I have had horrible intrusive thoughts in the past - they really can be very distressing, can't they?

Hopefully someone who does have OCD will respond soon but i'm here to chat in general if ever you need it.

Hi Brian!

I have also just been diagnosed with OCD of pure-"O", although I am not entirely sure if it's a true diagnosis, as I do have a few compulsions, but they are minor. I have definitely had compulsions in the past. I am following your post as I would like to see if somebody else has come out the other side, as I have lived with this for far too long. It has caused me no end of problems, including an eating disorder!

I wouldnt say I have pure O but I do have Intrissive thoughts that have made the pat year, they have been a mix of Murdering my parents and or commiting suicide, and they freak me out, I went to a psychiatrist and that really helped. All I can say is you have to be grateful for the feeling as it shows its something you wont do/ are scared of, try labelling the feeling and think about it then take actions to try and resolve this problem. So something like 'Ok so Im thinking this so I can be prepared for the situation, Why ? Because then it will be easier to control the situation and survive itor stop it' then take action so think 'Will it actually happen the thoughts are just thoughts etc' Also touching/ Hugging someone will greatly help. Thats all I ahve to say really, I hope you recover. Just think of the itnrusive thoughts as a benefit as they show something your brain doesnt want to happen and wnats to ake sure you are ok in that situation :)
