I am seeing a nurse practitioner. I really like her and I refer to her here as my psychiatrist. or. doctor. There are very few psychiatrists in MN. When mine retired there was no longer anyone available within 30 miles, and, most all were psychiatric nurse practitioners.

Some NPs are quite good. When I have to pay out of pocket I try to find an NP because it costs less. It sounds like there are very few choices near to where you live. Maybe it is a fairly rural place. If the NP helps you, then great! As long as you are getting what you need.

I love my NP. She is part therapist for me. My psychiatrist would just talk about meds.

Very good! Then you are fortunate. I'm glad you found someone you are comfortable with.
