Ugh, the nicer a school you go to, the bigger the egos of everyone around you, especially the profs.

I had a neuroscience prof who never replies to emails like a normal human being. You can feel him reading your email and deliberately not replying to boost himself up over you. There is no equality, even with first name basis crap at school. You have to suck up to them, it is your duty, and then they graciously feign to be your friend. It's awful how they act.

That's an awful game and completely unnecessary. You're there to receive an education not bolster someone's ego (and likely paying for the privilege).

At the higher levels of education, students already venerate their instructors in an authentic manner. If a professor is seen to be encouraging, asking or insisting that students be obsequious, this is a kind of self gratification and it needs to dealt with.
