In January I was discharged from CMHT by my psychiatrist who this was our first meeting and our appointment lasted about 15 minutes. I was having suicidal thoughts around this time but was still discharged and told to use Rethink to get help or in a crisis a place called Headspace which is a peer to peer support service. I explained how difficult this would be for because of trust issues as well as anxiety about being around people I don't know. So things have been up and down since then with my mood until recently when things have badly escalated to the point that taking my life and self harm have become a real issue particularly over the past week. Well I ended up in A&E last night with real bad suicidal thoughts, the doctor and nurse in the department were great, the doctor in particular as he also has issues with PTSD. But then I was seen by the psychiatric liaison team who went through an assessment with me about how I was feeling etc and then told me I wouldn't get the help I needed to through the mental health services and again suggested Rethink and Headspace. I feel so let down by the services and I don't know where to go from here, because it took so much effort and severe anxiety to get me to go there in the first place and stay waiting around for over 4 hours, just to be told that, part of me really wanted help and not to get it to be palmed off just doesn't help. So if mental health services are not able to help me manage my mental health then what are they for

This is unfortunately a very common experience. I think you use your GP and ask again and again for support. I had to make a nuisance of myself initially to get the support I needed.

How are you feeling right now? Do you have other problems other than the suicidal thoughts? I don't know what your finances are like but could you try therapy to see if you can get the help you need? I found I needed less help from services once I had therapy.

I'm afraid there just aren't enough in patient beds and psychiatric appointment times. It sucks but this is what the politicians have done to our services!!

We are hear to listen to you if that helps.

I was diagnosed with BPD some years ago but I I also think I have PTSD from childhood trauma but have never been diagnosed officially, because all they see is the BPD. I don't work as I now have physical disabilities to add to my mental health issues so I'm on benefits and I don't know if a private therapist is affordable for me, but I do have access to a horticultural therapy project which has helped to give me as active as I can be

you might benefit
from an independent mental health advocate

I use POhwer
I dont know if they are in your area
but if you contact them they should be able to tell you
if there is a similar service there

they have been vital to my recovery
