Positive Experiences with Quetiapine

Hi everyone.

Earlier this week I was told by the hospital that they think they're looking at Cyclothemia. I've never heard of it before but after some research I'm coming to terms with it. What I'm not coming to terms with however, is the idea of Quetiapine looking at the side effects it's scarier than any other medication I've ever been on (I've been on anti-depressants before they initially diagnosed me as depressive).

Basically I was just wondering if any of you have had problems with Quetiapine 100mg before and did the benefits outway the negatives?

It made me tired all the time and is exeptionally good at making you gain massive amounts of weight.

I take 100mg before bed.

Went from being a depressive insomniac wreck self medicating with alcohol, major emotional instabilty and to full nights sleep, feeling much more solid and stable, better socially, no anxiety, better organization and access and use of my executive congitive functioning and - zero weight gain or side effects at all.

I find it an excellent mood stabilizer and anti depressant WITHOUT that medicated feeling you get with actual ssris.

Seriously, after two days on it I went from feeling normal and how I did before my illness for the first time in over two decades.

It doesn't do much for the hypomania though, but mine is mild so not really a big problem, I actually enjoy it...

read through some of my posting history. I could right reams on how my meds have VASTLY improved my life, but have done it so many times before... So a search of my posting history will bring it up.

And I've said it a million times and will say it again - TAKE IT BEFORE BED! That way you sleep whilst it does it's rewiring and you wake up with no side effects.

It takes a while to adjust when you start on it. I take 600mg at night and have never slept so well. Takes me a little longer to get going in morning but always up by 8am. after that, no discernible difference. No weight gain. I was told it reaches max effect [I take slow release version] 6 hours after taking it so now take mine at 7pm. Don't like taking it but its prob saved my life. For me, I've had to accept the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Without quetiapine I just cant sleep. I recently got mine down to 800 from 1000mg but had a major nstressful event and couldnt clear my head and just was so irrational and agitated about anything.
Anyway i spoke to my support worker and i asked could i increase back to 1000 she agreed so that was great.
It was like within 4-5 days my thoughts settled down, i started thinking rationally and definitely no thoughts of self harm,
Its a good idea to get your meds reviewed every now and again.

Even though i was a nurse quetiapine was a drug i didnt know a lot about but when the doc mentioned it i was like 'oh fuck' the idea of taking an anti psychotic scared me. But anyway i had never had any side effects so very lucky.

I take 200mg in the evening and sleep well ,have had some weight gain(but have always had problems in this department!)my mind ( on most days ) is calmer and have far less rapid-churning thoughts. anti depressants did NOTHING for me tho I was prescribed them for 20+ years ....this is the first/only medication that I feel is making my life a bit easier. I do feel a little bit of me is resurfacing on my good days:) hope it helps you
