Last night my friend was really worried about me as I was out in the dark so she called the police so I came back home as I knew if I was at home they couldn't 136 me, shortly after I got home the police arrived, they were really nice, they called for a ambulance, when they got here the police were going to leave but both paramedics and police said that nether of them have the power to do anything as I'm in my own home. I had 3 ambulance staff and 2 police officers in my small front room- I continued to try to harm myself as I was getting even more distressed as I just wanted them to all leave, I didn't really talk to them as my head was telling me not too.

After a while they tried to call my out of hours mental health team- I had called them earlier on in the day but they told me I'm more than capably to make my own choices on weather I harm myself, I ended this call. I explained this all to the police and the ambulance and they were all shocked! they all said there thoughts on the mental health system which kind of made me feel better in a way as they agreed with how I felt about them. After a while they put me under the "Mental capacity act" as I was refusing to go to A&E as I knew that wouldn't help and no one would do anything to help me there. They tried to make me agree to go but I just couldn't do it so two police officers restrained me out of my house with me trying to run away and pull myself away from them as I didn't want to go! I just wanted to stop this all from happening.

When I got to A&E the police were not there thank god, but the male ambulance guy restrained me and wouldn't let go of my arm from the ambulance and around the hospital as I was trying to leave, I didn't want to be there, I knew what I wanted but no-one would agree.

Both police and ambulance staff were lovely and didn't get annoyed with me, I saw the mental health team but it just felt like she was blaming this all on me, saying if I just talked with police and ambulance at my home I wouldn't of been dragged out of my house and into A&E. so she didn't help at all so I left and came home.
Eveyone in A&E was just looking and staring at me because the male ambulance guy had hold of me and I was pulling away to get him off me but he wouldn't let go! :(

Now I'm at home feeling even worse about what happened last night- I have bruises and marks on my arm from them restraining me :(. im seeing my CPN Tuesday which im not looking forward too- my support worker is coming out today to see me after what happened.

Sorry for a long post!

It was a very distressing time for you. I'm glad you are seeing people who can give you some support after all that.

I think I read that there's a plan to extend s136 to include people in their own homes, which will simplify things for everyone in these situations.

As usual, mental health services are not fit for purpose. If you don't have an advocate with you, they bully you and treat you like you are making their life difficult. Its the patronising way they talk as though we are children who are being naughty. I have had such run ins recently too, but not like you have described above.

I know you have had a bad time, but can you write down, or print off what you wrote above and show them, to get your side of the story across clearly, ie that you didn't start this, continue it or cause it.

My deepest sympathies.
