I have severe anxiety and OCD about My kids. A fear of something happening to them... Doctor has referred me to a physiatrist. I am really panicking. Will the doctor have to ring social services? My kids are very well cared for and I would like to think the local doctors know that.

Do they HAVE to contact social services because of my severe ocd and anxiety? And because I'm now being referred to a psychiatric?

Thanks for reading. Panicking mummy here.

Perhaps one of the others can answer definitively but I think they only involve social services if either the environment is very bad or there is some possibility of harm. There are an awful lot of parents with a mental health condition who do a good job bringing up their kids, they'd be way to busy if they looked at all of those.

I don't think you have very much to worry about :)

Have a hug  and :welcome: to the forum

The very fact you worry about your kids all the time means that you are extra safe with them, over safe probably. Most doctors know that very few people with OCD and anxiety are a danger to themselves or others. With OCD you spend most of your life trying to stop bad things from happening to yourself or others. Unless your compulsions are putting your children's health at risk it's not likely they will contact social services.

I had a friend with OCD and she was one of the best mums I knew. I don't think social services were involved. Kerome is right, they have enough to deal with without monitoring every mentally ill parent.

Try not to worry.

Best wishes

Completely agree with what's been said above. Try not to panic, you're doing the right thing in seeking help. The psych should be able to reassure you, they will understand, OCD doesn't =automatic referral to social services. I hope things improve for you xx
