I am talking about my own experiences of seeing the GP before I was diagnosed.
I read somewhere random that like 1 in 10 could have BED these days. The doctors don't really have a practical way to cope with it. If someone just is overweight and says losing weight is difficult or impossible — what's new? It's like that for most people, I think.

I doubt they have time, if they're not specialised, to dwell on every case. Similarly as with many mental health problems, the patient often kind of needs to figure out himself/herself that the issue is a mental health problem and with that the doctor can, hopefully, send them on to someone specialised.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with it. That's not nice. After my fair share of bad patient experiences, I've developed an attitude of it is what it is. I don't mean to be insensitive.

some eating disorders do not respond to willpower
without first receiving specialist therapies
and possibly medication

a bit like with alcoholism
which also does not respond to willpower

I have seen an alcoholic sober for two years without receiving specialist therapies.

Thank you for saying you did not mean to be insensitive. That made me feel better.

My doctor says the underlying cause that needs to be treated of my eating disorder is depression, cos I eat for comfort when my moods are low.He said I should do a low calorie diet with strict portion control and that I need to exercise,by walking or using weights.I am going to try harder and maybe I can eat more healthy and say no to the junk and bad foods.I don't like the mental health people and dealing with them, they controlled me for years and I don't want to be back in the position of needing them.

How did they control you? It sounds like you already need them. If you had poor experiences with particular people, maybe you could change somewhere else or even get private therapy if you can afford it.

No I have thirty years experience with mental health personnel they are all more fucked up than I was,I don't want to get involved again apart from seeing the psychologist that actually helped me.But cos of Covid she could only talk to me over the phone and it didn't work well she ended up treating it like a time to talk about her frustrations with work and covid. Not this psychologist but most others they all have power over you when you go to them with your problems, some of them are power mad psychopaths and cause more harm to an already wounded psyche.

I think the average carbs for an adult is 400 grams a day, if your active. If your not moving about it's less than that.
