I read somewhere random that like 1 in 10 could have BED these days. The doctors don't really have a practical way to cope with it. If someone just is overweight and says losing weight is difficult or impossible — what's new? It's like that for most people, I think.I am talking about my own experiences of seeing the GP before I was diagnosed.
I doubt they have time, if they're not specialised, to dwell on every case. Similarly as with many mental health problems, the patient often kind of needs to figure out himself/herself that the issue is a mental health problem and with that the doctor can, hopefully, send them on to someone specialised.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with it. That's not nice. After my fair share of bad patient experiences, I've developed an attitude of it is what it is. I don't mean to be insensitive.
