I was recently given an Academic Discharge from the Air Force Reserves for Schizophrenia. While I was in the Reserves I did some side work with a staffing agency and the two jobs gave me just barely enough to pay for the $400 rent my parents set for me (this includes food). I've never had any extra money and the staffing company was never reliable on bringing in work for me. A lawyer is working on getting me a court session to determine my eligibility for SSI. This is estimated to take another 9 months at least.
I have no idea what options are available to me. I don't feel at all eligible for the workforce since I've been applying for jobs for several months with minimal results. And even now I'm plagued with a severe depression that saps me of so much energy I can't even leave the bed for more than half the day. And even I can get out of bed, I'm too nervous to leave my room most days.
My number one priority is finding a safe home. I've been to Mental Health Centers and they've only listed homeless shelters for me. This would make me even less comfortable than I already am, hiding out in my room. Where can I look to for assistance? What is available for a 27 year old Reservist who has been in the force for 3 years?
Looking forward to your responses. Thank you in advance.
