I will start this with, I do not trust people very much. I only have 2 people I have let get close to me, one is my husband and the other is my BFF.

I have an appointment with my doctor in a week or so. I am trying to figure out how to bring out the topic of my many substance abuses and behaviors. I have never spoken of any of this to anyone ever. Mostly because (dingy me of course) I never really saw this as a problem for me. Not to bring up in a session or to a doctor of any kind before anyway.

Now I do. My actions, behaviors and all are now really affecting my life, work and well spilling over to everything.

I am worried about telling my doc this as is it really confidential? I don't want anything other than a one on one personal therapist if that is what is needed. I do not want any sort of group therapy or anything as I know me and I know that this will not help as I will not participate. It is just not me. Anyone have any experience here that can help? Or just want to chat about this. I am game. The one think I really like about the internet, all anonymous. :D

Thanks in advance for replying, reading, etc. I do appreciate it. (oh by the way I am also bi-polar in case that gives anyone additional info needed) :eek2::scratcheshead:

I don't think they are allowed to break confidentiality unless it involves harm to someone but the rules on these things may be different in the states.

I believe that CBT can be used for substance abuse though again I don't know about the States. I've got some experience of 12 step programmes, but when you say you don't want group therapy I'm assuming you also mean these groups as well, even though they are not really group therapy?? You could try online meetings..

Yes I am talking about any level of therapy and support other than online or one on one. I don't want the 12 steppers or anything of the sort.
