I have ocd and I self harm. To be more precise I have religious ocd. I have gotten rid of any book, dvd or video game which mite offend God. I have no friends and my pocessions r important to me. I think that if I watch something that offends God I could die. Last nite my ocd was really bad and I self harmed. I decided last nite that Im miserable not being able to enjoy my things so I decided to enjoy my fav things and mute any bad bits in films r black out anything bad in books. I am a bit stressed as I am scared but I think enjoying my things is better than self harming. Does anyone else here have this type of ocd?

That kind of OCD is very common. Obsessions wouldn't be obsessions if they didn't bother us, correct? Then they would just be "ruminations". Look into cognitive behavioral therapy+an SSRI+a little bit of a benzodiazapine+fish oil+mood leveling agent or supplement.

10 years of OCD and now I'm symptom free : )

Hi there,
I have severe OCD, although the only religious elemt is that I must sleep with a Bible under my pillow. Other than that, I can only relate to you with that feeling of dread that accompanies OCD.
Regarding self harm, I started several months ago, but since my OCD is very much ritual-based, self harm became part of that - it's a ritual in itself. Now as your OCD is not ritual based, hopefully you're not in danger of that.

Infact, maybe it could be used to your advantage. God's word is to treat your body as a temple. It is God's creation, therefore you mustn't do it any damage.
I hope it doesn't become a regular occurence,
Phoebe.

Hi

Yeh go and get CBT and some meds. I had religious OCD. Don't let this put you off but if the religion is harming you (it not the religion thats harming you but your OCD relation to it) then CBT can give you a break from it, they challenge your behaviour then when you are better you can return to religion in a healty way. Don't worry they never try and take it away fro you, just help you so you can be religious in the same way OCD free people are. I had horrible religious OCD were I had to pray in exactlythe right way. If i didn;t I thoguht i woudl never get better so prayed again and again and again. (Exact words had to be said in exact order) . Same with church - had to prepare prayer and say prayer in precise way. Drove me nuts and did more damagethen good. Anyway if you wish to prusue religious life (I kind of believe in god) then CBT will just help you so you can praactice it in an OCD free way. Hope that helps. DOn't self harm thoguh please. Youcan get better so that thought alone I hope will reduce the need to feel to have to self harm. Feel free to PM me. : )

I self harmed cos of religous OCD and lucky to live. Very glad now alive as know there is a cure ot my problems and can get better and have a great life which is far bette rthen being dead.

I have severe OCD which does interfere with my self harming, I have to do certain compulsions when I self harm.

I'd see a professional.

You're not alone.

ditto i have exactly the same thing i didnt even realise the ritualisation of my self harming until i was diagnosed with severe ocd (as well as intrusive thoughts) my advice would be to speak to a doc asap they REALLY know their stuff he just said it like it was really obvious, i was almost laughing because it all rang so true, considering i was there because of another failed suicide attempt my mood has lifted substantially just hearing someone say it good luck x x x

Hey, My husband has religious OCD, along with PTSD, and almost depression free. He is suicidal a lot, only tried to cut himself once. He's on Paxil 60 mg along with a load of other med. He's on the line of not offending God and constantly wants to please God which in all reality he ends up doing absoutely nothing for God and lives in his mind. I don't know how to help it, if you figure it out let me know. Bless you!
