Nicotine and anxiety

I quit smoking 5 days ago because of my anxiety.

It's common to think that smoking is a way to calm your nerves but the truth is nicotine can make anxiety symptoms worse.

Nicotine ramps up blood pressure and heart rate.

Smoking doesn't actually help you cope with stress.

Overcoming nicotine addiction is difficult, but if I don't beat this now, nicotine will harm my mental health and body beyond repair over time.

I found it too difficult to outright quit and used a vape instead. Pretty amazing you’ve managed to go cold turkey. Proud of you.

What you are saying is absolutely true.
It appears to calm you, but it just makes your ups and downs far more aggresive.

I've noticed that when i do get angry or stressed, i calm down way quicker compared to when i still smoked.

You are already 5 days in, wich is huge.
You have to fight your brain every day again. Once you overcome the first few weeks,
you should be fine.

You might want to make a Week-List where you cross off each day you managed to not smoke so you can see your Progression. That helped me lots.

Nicotine addiction is kind of a double-edged sword. Naturally, nicotine raises blood pressure and heart rate for a few minutes. If you're addicted and are coming off of it, your body feels like it needs it and anxiety kicks in, which causes your blood pressure and heart rate to go up. After you get your fix, your blood pressure and heart rate will go down, but for different reasons. That's what makes quitting so hard for me.

I'm glad you're getting a handle on it! You can do it!!!
