Hi, I joined looking for a place to relate and connect with people. People have been urging me to see a therapist; however, I've had bad experiences with some and it feels too overwhelming to try to find one I relate to, so I thought that discussing things on this forum would be beneficial and feel safer (I realise it's not a therapy group, or a substitute for seeing a therapist). Years ago I was diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and I have had depression at times. After some research, I believe that I have Complex PTSD (from neglect, abuse and violence in childhood). Often I isolate for various reasons: I need space; I don't want to talk about everyday things; people seem to get frustrated with me remaining "stuck" and give me advice, occasionally say I've got a "victim mentality," also I don't want to be a burden on people; and sometimes it's just hard to find the motivation to socialise or go out.
