Hi everyone
I'm hoping above hope that someone on here might be in a position to talk about Intermittent Explosive Disorder. I believe my husband is suffering from this and despite trying we are unable to access any help. This is not only affecting him but me too. I'm trying my best but its like treading on eggshells and although I want desperately to help him I feel like I'm drowning.

Hello. Not sure I had the exact same thing, but I would see red mist and explode. DBT changed my life & I haven’t had an explosion in many, many years.

It’s a very difficult thing to live with one who has a hair trigger temper.

Thank you for warm welcome, it means a lot.
I would describe it as the day going from normal to explosive in minutes, usually over some perceived slight or minor issue. He can be very intimidating, close up and screaming in my face, smashing things (always mine). I will now shut myself in a room or go out or he will. Normally its over very quickly but seems to last forever to me. He's always ashamed and sorry afterwards but I've been dealing with it for nearly 12yrs now and we need to find help for it. He's been to anger management and left our home for a year, he was much better for a few years after but things are building again

Hi Hope7512,
Welcome to the forum,
I'm so sorry your going thru this. Has your partner ever seen a psychiatrist?
Some form of specialist therapy might help.
Hugs

No, he's been to counselling a number of times and when he's having the sessions they do seem to help but when they come to an end it feels like our safety net has gone. We've been trying to get professional help but the waiting lists on the NHS are very long and I'm seriously considering suggesting we go privately. On the plus side he is very open to trying to find help & acknowledges he has a major problem, which I do see as a positive. I should say that these episodes don't happen all the time, usually three or four times a year.
Its very wearing emotionally for me as I just don't know when it will happen
