HI all. I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2000 at the age of 26 after my second breakdown after the traumatic events that happened surrounding my dad. I was very close to him, he had suffered a heart attack around 1998 and stroke which led to him being in a coma, when he woke up he was paralysed from the neck down. He ended up being bedbound for the next 20 years, it wasnt a quality of life for him and a very painful thing or me to deal with esp when visiting him at the home. He was once so full of life and he was a great character.

I feel the numerous sexual assaults from a next door neighbour that happened to me when I was about 10 years old and witnessing the bad domestic violence between my parents contributed to the decline of my mental well being whilst growing up. I had depression by the time I was 17 and I had agoraphobia issues also.

I have been stable more or less since 2004 from PS and not had any major episodes since I gave birth to my son almost 15 years ago, he is the one thing that keeps me going.

I dont hear voices much - my head just feels very ''crowded'' during bad days. Am on stable medication...which I am very grateful for . Aside from PS, I had cancer and a mini stroke in recent years. Feel very lucky to have survived both, and I appreciate life more these days. Im only 46.

Hiya and welcome to the forum. Had a stroke by 46 isn't good news, are they monitoring you closely? I would have thought that they should especially with the history of your dad.

I hope you find us supportive and kind. Schizophrenia is such a difficult problem to have to deal with. glad you are fairly stable right now. You sound a very strong person.

Hey, I'm so sorry about the painful issues in your past, glad that you've found help in the meds and all, that is huge. I have a 15-year-old son as well, and he is the ONLY thing that has kept me here many times. It's nice to be able to say that "out loud", as I think about it every day and can't really say it to many people. You do sound v strong, as calypso said. You've been through a hell of a lot as just a child as well as as an adult, and def should give yourself credit for not only making it through, but actually getting better. That sounds so painful to watch your dad go through that, I cannot imagine going through that for so long. The toll it must take. In any case, good for for opening up, and just keep talking :)
