Hi , I don't really know where to start, we are after some help regarding our daughter, She has Autism and has had a kind of *breakdown* a few months ago. It is starting to happen again and we have no help at all, she had every test done even a brain scan but that was performed months after her breakdown due to waiting lists. Is there a out of hours place I could call or get some information from.

Hi Nikatax,
The last breakdown she had was last November, she would wet and defacate herself, freeze in strange contorted positions, hear voices telling her to go to the dark side, she is 17 and we have no idea where this is all stemming from. It lasted a couple of months in all we had tests done ie, bloods etc, but they all came back normal. It is happening again now though and we just don't know where to turn. As she is Autistic her imagination is always on the go , she has always talked to herself, but this is different she says she has voices again, and that every part of her body hurts. We know the signs now of whats to come but have never heard of the Crisis team, what do they do if you don't mind me asking? I have looked into catatonic autism when it happened last time as 99^of her symptoms were the same but I was told it wasn't that, we have a social worker who im afraid to say is useless, we have no out of hours contact numbers for anyone, and I think we are so used to just getting on with things we feel we should just carry on but when we see her in this state its so hard. xx

Hi, am sorry you've had no support. Good advice from Nikita.
I would add that it might be worth phoning your GP number to get through to the out of hours service. Where I am there isn't a 24 hour crisis service, you have to be referred. So another option would be taking your daughter to a local walk in centre, 111 would have details of local options for you.
I hope things get better, your daughter is lucky to have your support xx

We did have her down on referral to cahms but as her tests came back clear the doctor decided to take her off the waiting list for them, we only found that out last week when we got a copy of the doctors findings. I think everyone puts it down to her Autism but it isn't that, we know her traits and we know when things aren't right, I will definitely have a look for out of hours help, thankyou :) xx

That's appalling! There is no blood test for mental health issues IMO. It sounds as though the autism diagnosis is stopping the medics investigating the other possible mh issues x

I have just got through to nhs direct and am waiting for them to call back, I was shocked by what the doctor did aswell, as he is the doctor who specialises in Autism and special needs children. He told us last time, well done for getting through it.. its just an insult. xx

Hi there Bev,:welcome:

I just saw your post. There are really lovely caring people on here.

I see you are in Bridgend, and grrrr...wouldn't you think after all the troubles there over the years there would be some decent MH support around there? xxx

I agree with the other posters, I think you need some help and support as a carer also. Its scary and lonely trying to help someone who is as distressed as your lovely daughter.

There is a National Carers charity who are great at giving support to people like yourself. You need support too, it's a hard battle on your own. xx

There's a group in Bridgend who I think would be able to give you some support. Here is the link.

Bridgend Carers Centre | Carers Trust | Action, help and advice for carers

They will be open tomorrow, they might ask you to register with them as it helps draw down funding as they have charitable status.

It doesn't cost you anything and they will know whats what locally for you. Havent used them myself there but their equivalent where I am in North West England have been great at helping my neighbour who has been struggling a lot to care for someone all on his own.

I'm really so sorry that you have been left high and dry...especially with the s.w. .. gosh what a disgrace...lean on the good folks here and also use the links everyone has given.

Stay in touch with us if you are able.

All good wishes
Taffy xxx

Thankyou Taffy :)
We have passed the Carers centre on the way to town and always wondered if they would be a help, you kind of get used to doing it all on your own, especially when you've asked for help but none has been given. I really am glad I found this site as from the word go people have been so friendly and helpful. I think we may have to go private from what the doc at the hospital just said, as we know how long it took last time for things to get started and we don't want to wait that long again as its not fair on Jade. Will look into it though, thankyou so much for your support everyone, your lil gems xxx

Hi all, we went to docs today, who thinks its due to her Autism and constipation, so we have had to ask to go private to see a psychiatrist. We don't know how long that will take to sort out but its our best option. Will let you know what happens when it happens, as for Jade she is still the same, thanks again for the support xxx

Bev, I had a meeting today with our Carers centre...its in a big city... i I mentioned your post in passing... apparently they have had a number of carers who have had a family members MH difficulties put down to "autism".

They suggested that you take advice from the National Autistic Society also and to get support from Bridgend Carers they can help with any advocacy you may need to argue your corner.

Just my view...do this perhaps while waiting to hear about the private referral?

As many irons in the fire as possible .......I'm so sorry that you are struggling for support:hug1:
