Hi, I'm Bramble. My mother has tried three times to commit suicide. She has tried a couple of different methods - the latest - resulted in several falls. She has two black eyes and bumps on the head. Because she is also on Warfarin, her ankles and elbows are black where she has bruised herself.

Now I am afraid to leave her alone. I can't bear the idea of finding she has made another attempt. The hospital sent her home after three days when she told them she will do this again. There was no support offered to our family, but I guess I wasn't surprised.

I work from home (when I can). If I get a job outside the house, I will only have to leave when Mum tries this again.

Because I had plenty of friends and interests, I am finding it very hard now I don't have the freedom to enjoy either.

What do other people do in this situation? I feel very isolated.

Hello and :welcome: Bramble.

Sorry you are going through a rough time with your mum at the moment.

Do you know why your mum want's to end her life?
If i were you i'd tell her gp you are no where near happy with no support for your mum ........... councelling etc may benefit your mum .
Maybe she has history of depression ?! There are so many questions that i would be asking the proffesionals.

You takecare now and come here vent, cry, laugh anything you feel you need to do

Hi Bramble - I'm glad you're here. Hopefully you'll get the support you need here - we're actually quite good at it. I'm sorry it's so rough at the moment, does your mum have any psychiatric care at all? Do you have people you can lean on? We never close so drop by anytime. :welcome:

Thanks everyone for your kind welcome.

I will have a look at the suicide prevention website (thanks, Rorschach!) and see whether I can pick up any tips.

Forgot to say before that Mum has no history of depression, and she's not depressed now. She simply wants to end her life because she's always been an active person - but after 6 years of bad health (mainly undiagnosed, despite numerous tests and procedures) - she says she cannot bear the symptoms any more.

Symptoms include: waking up feeling severely nauseated each morning; something wrong with the tip of her tongue which will not let her rest; and an eye problem which is never cured by any kind of drops (she becomes allergic to them), so she can't read as much as she'd like.

She has seen counsellors, psychiatrists, psychologists and specialist physicians. Nobody has been able to help her.

At least I'm getting a short break. Dad is taking her away for a week. Here's hoping I'll be able to get some perspective and think about what to do next.

So glad I found this forum.

Warm regards to you all,
Bramble
