Hi all, new to here and to this kind of thing. Long story short....I've suffered with health anxiety for almost 10 years only in the last year did I start taking medication(propanalol) to try stop some of the physical symptoms I.e racing heart, in hope it would break the cycle. For the last year it has been fairly sucessful; but for some reason this last week I've really struggled and my anxiety seems a 1000 times worse and I'm losing control of stopping the negative health thoughts.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about your health anxiety. I know how you feel. I had health anxiety before.

The thing that really helped me is to start a conversation with anyone when I am anxious. Especially if the conversation is about a serious subject.

Get the necessary medical check up to have a peace of mind.

I hope you feel better soon.

Nothing really only that I started with back pain which is usual with the job i do, i think the back pain has obviously set my health anxiety off because I've let the cycle start rather than been logical, I've let the "its obviously something serious" take over. I know deep down it's not; but it's not easy to break the thought process once it starts.

I work in healthcare, so lots of moving and handling so the probability is that its muscle strain, you would think after 10 years of having anxiety u would be able to control it :(

How long have u had health anxiety? The only way I can explain it is like OCD with thoughts, I have actually banned myself from reading magazines as alot have stories in about illnesses, so I would then trigger new symptoms. Its exhausting.

Hi welcome to the forum. It did probably start with your back and just spiral into what you are feeling right now. I sure wish you a speedy recovery and take it easy on yourself. Hugs

You're right and I know it's not real in the sense of it been a illnesses but the thing about this type of anxiety is its relentless in asking what if it serious? What if I'm the one that has a disease? Surely I wouldn't be in this much pain if it wasn't serious? What I do tell myself is that i can sleep well so if it was so serious and painful surely it would wake me, and when my mind is occupied it's not there so that tells me its anxiety.

Iv always been what my family and friends would describe as a hyperchondriac. Iv also suffered with anxiety and panic attacks approx 7 years ago but got over it quite quickly with some cbt and medication.
Health anxiety really started this year, between jan - March I had load of illnesses so convinced myself there was something seriously wrong that was being misdiagnosed....since then every little tingle, numbness, pain etc is either the symptom of a serious illness or the start of a stroke, heart attack, blood clot....could go on and on.
I’m a bit better since finding this website as I now realise that anxiety is causing these symptoms and I’m able to tell myself that when anything’s happening rather than let my thought get out of control and turn into a panic attack.
