Hi I'm new here. Really need some advice.
I have been on fluoxetine for 7 months for depression, low mood lack of motivation, irritability etc. It worked a little but I ended up self medicating with food and drink. My Dr recommended trying a higher dose 40mg which I did but I felt worse so he said maybe try switching. I lowered my dose and stayed on 20mg over xmas. 3 weeks ago I was advised to stop taking the fluoxetine have a week off and then start taking sertraline 50mg on the 8th day. I have been on sertraline now for 9 days and I have suffered terrible nausea, brain fog, diziness, despair. Total low mood, no energy, can only do the bare minimum. I feel like a shell.
I wondered if anyone knew anything about fluoxetine withdrawal, switching to sertraline and side effects and also what would happen if I were to stop taking sertraline now?

Fluoxetine never worked for me so I had to switch to Venlafaxine as I was to quote my mother 'like a zombie'. The withdrawal from Fluoxetine was a complete dip in mood and brain fog as you mentioned.

hi Emrys :welcome:

I've been on both but there was a gap in time between them

can you get back to the doctor and describe to him what you said here
you could even copy what you wrote
as you've expressed it very clearly

I find sertraline helpful but it gives me a sugar craving
so we are slowly reducing it now

keep posting about it , people will offer different experiences

How long was the gap when you switched? And how long did the withdrawal last?

Hi Zoe,

How long were you off fluoxetine and how long did the withdrawal last? Did you have bad side effects at first with sertraline?

There wasn't a gap between the two, I just switched from one to the other but it took about 2-3 weeks of being off fluoxetine and on venlafaxine to come back to normal.
