Hello everyone. I have been dealing w/ depression and anxiety for a while now. I believe the root of it is dealing with a sexual addiction, specifically pornography and the guilt that comes w/ it since I'm married. I have that pretty well under control, but the reason I'm here today is because I struggle w/ another issue. Whenever something major changes in my life, I go through a lot of anxiety for about 1-2 weeks followed by another week of depression. The most recent example is I started a new job a little over a week ago, and although it is a great opportunity with more money than I was making, I was coming from a situation where I was excellent at my job and enjoyed it. I think I will be good at this job too, but with it still being new the uncertainty bothers me (I'm not really a risk taker, and I'm very routine oriented). I think it will be alright in the end, but does anyone else go through this too? If so, any tips? FYI, I'm on 20mg of paxil. Thanks for any advice

Hi bmac85,

Welcome to the forum. I'm new too but everyone is real friendly.

Job wise, I went for over 20 years in my last job, scared to leave, in fear of the unknown. The stress became too much so i quit, had a few weeks off then took a factory job. I was scared as hell on day 1 but by the 3rd day I was more relaxed and by the 2nd week all was well. Less stress but less cash too. That said, I wish I'd done it years ago - my fear of the unknown was unfounded. Since had 4 jobs in last 2 years and although i feel stressed on day 1 i know i'll be ok by the end of the 1st week.

Hi bmac, :welcome:

I tend to get panicky in new jobs too, and takes me a LONG time to settle in. It sounds like you have a particular pattern though in relation to new jobs and anxiety followed by depression. Do you know what happens when the anxiety wears off and depression sets in? Like for some people it might be, the initial nervousness has worn off and now they feel trapped.

Hope you enjoy posting on the forum.

In my previous job, my original manager left and I went through the same thing with the transition to my new manager. In the end, my new manager was awesome and it ended up fine, and I suspect the same will happen with this new job. The only difference is switching jobs (and learning a new job) and managers this time instead of just a manager. I think it will all end well because I work really hard in everything I do and tend to be successful at new challenges I take on because of this, but I'm just sick and tired of going through this cycle every time something in my life changes (not just w/ work, it happens w/ anything big that changes)
