So I’d like some advice and some input if possible.
(My first time posting here so sorry if I do it wrong )

So I’m 18 years of age and I’m doing a apprenticeship alongside working as a IT Technician. I was doing one of my exams today for my apprenticeship and I failed it by one mark as the pass mark was 13 and I got 12.

Ever since I got that result I’ve felt so depressed and sad. I haven’t wanted to eat drink or do anything. I’ve just felt so down and I don’t have much confidence in myself anyway. I can’t tell if my depressions is starting to kick back in as I used to have a little bit of it but I used a counsellor to calm it down and make it a bit better.

I’ve told my family but they keep saying the same thing like “you’ll do better next time” and stuff and I just get a bit fed up of them saying the same thing and it don’t do my confidence any good as I’ve not got much of it anyway.

Any ideas to make me feel a bit better?

Everyone makes some mistakes man, we're only human. I really love music and I've failed in some grades regarding it because my mental health sapped my motivation away from me, I failed in an area I was supposedly passionate about and known for and it hurt terribly. I've performed bad gigs too that made me want to give it all up together. But I'm still trying to this day.

I agree with your parents point of view fully if IT is something you really want to do, if it's not working out for you maybe look at all your options. I'm not sure what your exact circumstances are, but I'm sure you've got plenty of options out there :) keep positive my dude, things normally seem worse than they actually are sometimes!

If you have an underlying depression then anything can trigger it to flare up I think. Its not helpful for people to say that you will do better next time as that ignores your feelings. Have you access to a counsellor still who could talk with you about this? Are you going to take the test again soon? It sometimes helps to ask what you failed on so you know for next time what is your weakness, is there any way that can happen?

I take your feelings seriously and hope you can find a way back to more equilibrium in yourself.

That's the thing @HumanPerson i agree with them too. But it's just kinda the thing you'd expect them too say. But they may rightly be true as well...

And @calypso im hoping to take it again soon but cauae I just feel so down, I have that negitive feeling like I'm gonna fail again. Like I want to do good to pass this module as I have a huge passion for IT but it's just proving hard as hell.... And I attempezt to ask what I did wrong to help improve. They wouldn't tell me as the answers that I made go straight off to the exam board for further marking. It's a electronic test.

With just one point out of your exam result. I would say that you have the ability to improve which is a hopeful place to be. Now if you had totally flunked out then that would be different. All you can do is to get back on that horse and try again.

Hey :)

I think it's important to take some perspective! You didn't pass this exam, but does that stop you at all? You can retake the exam, you can continue your apprenticeship - life goes on as normal. I think you're disappointed in yourself - be kind to yourself, forgive and move on :)

Much love <3

I am dissapointed in myself quite a bit. Very much more annoyed as I didn't get it by one mark.

I'm trying my best to move on yeah.
