My recovery technique

It's not perfect and it won't suit everyone - however for my depression I have found that exercise helps considerably, especially in group scenario's (eg. for me it was bootcamps or boxing-fitness classes etc.).

Being in a group helps motivate you to go as it becomes semi-social and a place to talk about things that aren't getting you down.

Whilst exercising you can't think, you can't spiral, you just work. I have found this very beneficial as over-thinking scenario's and replaying unhappy memories is one of my biggest issues with becoming depressed.

On the physiological side, the endorphin's released by exercise help give you a high that becomes addictive but in a good sense. You do it, get in the habit then start to notice the feeling good afterwards.

Hope this helps someone to get back on their feet, it has helped me over time. Oh and do it for yourself, not for someone else - if you're doing it for someone else then you've already given yourself an excuse.

I'm really glad you've found something that helps. (y)

I think going to a group activity or class is really quite courageous, so good on you for getting to it.
I'd be too anxious for a group thing I think, but I appreciate how good exercise can be for making you feel better and quietening the mind.
