My paranoid mind is scaring me to buy only Japanese brands.

I'm not disrespecting Japanese car brands. Please don't judge me.

Like, people say that they had problems with other cars and but never had a problem with Japanese cars. Although no one stated that Japanese cars are only reliable cars, and everything else is garbage, my thoughts are plagued with it. Only Japanese vehicles are dependable, my thoughts say, Everything else are junk vehicles that need to be avoided. My mind also states that non-Japanese cars are waste to the environment (Since Toyota Prius is eco-friendly), and a financial waste.

Many minimalists, and many religious people who oppose wealth buy junk vehicles. They can be of any brand. But my mind says if these minimalists want to help the poor, they can save more money by saving repair costs. Since older Japanese models last forever, they can save more repair costs that other older cars produce. Plus, I heard that they cost less in repairs.

Since the economy is bad these days, everyone has to save tons of money to get by. My mind scares me to buy only Japanese cars in order to save money.

Plus, my mind also scares me to buy only Japanese cars for safety. On the news, I saw many Hyundai and Kias catch on fire. The four-cylinder models cause problems. The engine stalls are the ignition shuts off. The bearing rods catch fire.

But I owned a V6 Hyundai. I never had problems. Although my previous cars caused problems, my 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe never did. Some new cars cause trouble, but this big SUV never broke down. It went on reliably for years.

And I have a pretty good reason why I avoid Japanese cars. When I was a teenager, we couldn't afford Japanese cars.
We had no money even for a used one. So we had to drive American clunkers (they were cheaper) that were in bad conditions (like my Oldsmobile Intrigue). While people around our family owned nice Toyotas and Lexuses. They brag and boast that they never had a problem. While we have to rot away not being able to afford it.

I came to a conclusion. If I can't buy it, not gonna buy it. I just settled in contentment. Although my Oldsmobile was a junk, my Hyundai Santa Fe was a reliable car. I fell in love with it. The car was durable. I got into an accident, and the car withstood without major damages. Only minor repairs were done. At nights, my car glowed blue in the dark. I loved the dashboard for making speedometer glow blue.

For financial reasons, I sold it. Now I miss it. I want to buy another one, not the 4-cylinder.

I know, I know. I need to open up to Japanese brands, but I just want to let ya'll know... I never really had problems with other brands (except Oldsmobile). So why do I have to fear other brands? Not all of the brands cause problems...

Hi frisas!

Hey, you can't help what makes you happy. just because you have a preference for cars doesn't make you a bad person. You know what you like and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm slowly learning at the moment that what makes a majority of people "happy" isn't what makes me happy. No use in following the trend or crowd just because it's the "right thing" or the "it thing" to do.

If you're set on something that makes you happy than there is no reason to try to persuade yourself otherwise! And every car has cons and pros just like every life decision we make. But, you have to be confident and be happy with your choice and make sure that you've made the choice that has your best interest.

Thank you for your encouragement!

Well, I'm not a bad person because I love non-Japanese brands. I'm in fear because it might have problems. Like, catching fire and engine shutting off (or worse). But my experience tells me otherwise...

My Hyundai i10 has been great, less repairs than a Ford in my opinion.
It is reliable. Will be buying another next year hopefully.
Go for what you feel, experience is important.

We have a Hyundai Accent Sport and have never had an issue with it. We have even had a minor accident in it and it’s safety features were amazing. Much better than the Holden/Vauxhall Spark we used to have.
