My new CPN is rather crap.

Sol I've got this temprorary CPN at the moment, she's a new qualified nurse straight out of Nursing school and I've got to say she's rather shite at her job. I knwo she is very inexperienced and proably needs to settle into her groove coming straight out of college but comapred to Jess who did the meds clinic straight out of college and was brilliant and dedicated she is very lacking. I know she probably has a lot of patients who need a lot more help and support tahn I do but I feel my CMHT is short changing me atm. I know NHS staff are overworked and under paid but at least here in the UK any citizen can get medical care for free and Tory cuts to the NHS have stripped services to the bone.

I have recently switched back to Risperidone from Flupentixhol and it's working great, my social anxiety, social agoraphobia, paranoid and anxious thoughts have deopped through and I'm a lot more relaxed when I go out and about - I've barely left the hosue for the last nearly ten years since my last hospitalisation except for essentials and to see a couple of close friends.

The problem is I went a bit high a few days ago due to one med coming out of my system and the other one building up, I'm due to go on a Risperdal Consta depot in a couple of weeks when the Flupentixhol depot has completely come out of my system but for now I'm taking Risperidone tablets just 1mg a day but I'm due to go up to 2 mg in the next couple of days and I run out of meds tomorrow and I don't want to go Psychotic and end up making a suicide attempt (I've had two very nearly fatal ones about 15 years ago) or get really paranoid due to not sleeping for four or five days and ep up running around the countyr sleeping on the streets and in woodland, blowing all my money on rail and coach tickets. I've long suspected there may be a mood component to my Psychosis that was misidagnosed as negative symptoms of Schizophrenia and depression due to me tending towards the low but sometimes I go really high and experience a lot of things my Schizo-affective ex-girlfriend does. It's something I need to talk my shrink about when I next see him. I rang my CPN a week ago to find out what was happening with my tablets going up and when I would be going on the depot injection so she's had a week to sort this out and my meds still haven't been ordered from the pharmacy as far as I know, she was meant to let me know today but no calls, texts or voicemails.

If she doesn't improve and I hear nothing tomorrow I am going to sack her and go back to the meds clinic nurse who I am going to call tomorrow if I haven't heard anything, meds can be expressed delivery from an NHS pharmacy within 24 hours, the meds clinic nurse has done this for me when I have missed an appointment by a day or so and the duty nurse I have seen for my injection has forgot to order new meds. I am also going to call my shrink's secretary and complain and get her to pass the information along to him.

Just venting a little about the rubbish nature of the situation and getting it of my chest to my fellow MH sufferers, however, your thoughts and comments are as always welcome.

I’ve been reading quite a lot about relapses lately because we are heading for a tapering off in the next 6 months. One thing that I read is that a relapse doesn’t just “pop up”, it takes between 1 to 4 weeks to build up (like the prodrome) and if you don’t have sleep issues or your interest in things doesn’t disappear you shouldn’t overthink it. Also missing 1 dose, one day will not affect your treatment reliability. If you think you need help, tell someone you trust your worries and they can watch you closer and tell if there is something changed for you. You will be fine!

@Fairy Lucretia, she's only temporary for a few months anyway to oversee me switching back to risperidone and I don't really need her for anything. I think she's a bit inexperienced and is going by the book and relying on information from more senior staff and Nick my shrink. She's probably just under experienced and needs to develop more confidence in her nursing practice but that can be a potentially dangerous thing in a CPN, the NHS is having so much trouble recruting due to the Tories under funding things that nurses are coming straight from school into working in the community when a few years ago they had to have spent a couple of years on the wards gaining experience under the tuelage of more experienced nurses. But like I said at least the NHS is free at the point of use for British citizens which is more than some of our fellow MH sufferers in other countries have.

@linus thanks mate, I haven't had a major episode or hsopital admission in about ten years and I was on Risperidone for years and it really worked for me, it only stopped working when I was drinking stupid amounts of Vodka everyday and no amtter what med I was on that would happen. They only put me on Flupentixhol becuase I was having so amny short admissions ina two year period, but a psychotic episode really knocks your confidence for six and I'm only just getting it back now.

ask for a new one? xxx
Hey,

I actually agree with Fairy, it sounds like she's failing you on the basics - getting your medication switched over is the only thing she has to do by the sounds of it. Only problem is that could take time.

Can you ring the CMHT and ask what's happening leaving a message?

Hello Lone wanderer, sorry to here that you are disappointed with your replacement CPN, like you i had a replacement CPN and she was also very young and newly trained. Please consider the fact that this new CPN is still learning her job and it is probably very daunting for her visiting homes in the community and trying to get things right, the paperwork they have to complete is also very demanding.

Yeah well, inexperience is no excuse for incompetence in an MH nurse however I have decided to give her until midday to sort it or I will be calling the meds clinic nurse or the duty worker if they are a nurse and getting them to get a Dr to write me up a prescription that can be filled at a pharmacy.

My CPN has just texted me saying she is being hampered by the bureaucratic process of sorting out the change in meds so maybe I have been a little hard on her but she should have communicated better with me instead of just a few short text messages, if I get no joy I am hoping my GP practice can sort me out a prescription.

Meds will be here tomorrow and she wants to have a face to face catch up so it's all sorted now and maybe I have been a little overly harsh.
