I agree with you the statement is misleading.

The so called group(cult,Belief) should abstain from materialism and focus on spirituality. In truth!that is what spirituality teaches. Mind you!spirituality is great for us
Yes, of course, spirituality is great for us. But the real teachings of spirituality can never make anyone to become lifeless. Do you agree?

Yes and that’s the whole matter, my brother is becoming lifeless and sometimes I think I should sue those handsome gurus (see the video in my first post) for for inducing a feeling of suicide in someone.

By the way, can you please tell me a substitute of those gurus? I think it’s better to substitute it with something hopeful than to strive for eradicating those unreal spirituality (taught by those Internet gurus).

My brother had some sort of anxiety, depression (I'm using these words the way they are used in general public not psychologically) and we could never know. I think he found some relief in spirituality, which is good, but the people he chose to follow (and still following) are those who say things like these

  • You're not this body, the whole universe is in you and you're the whole universe
  • Life is about wisdom, after gaining that wisdom you'll realize that life is itself completely meaningless
  • Everything in this world is just material, they all have potential to cause you a great pain .

I don't know how to put it but I can see that if condition will go on like this then he might take some strong but a cowardly step. I want to tell you all that once he went away from house, and didn't return for 16 hours, he was on the way of knowing the life (that's what he answered upon being questioned about why he left). I need some help form you all, these materialistic people have destroyed his mentality by wearing the clothes of spirituality.
Personally, I agree with these quotes, although I would have expressed myself slightly differently. Perhaps your brother hasn't quite understood what they are saying, or perhaps he cannot express their thoughts in a way that you can relate to. You do not say how old your brother is, but if he's an adult, I cannot see a problem in him leaving the house for 16 hours, although I would encourage him to let you know another time so you don't worry.

I have been subjected to ridicule because of my own spiritual views, which do not fit any particular organised religion. What I understand the spiritual group to be saying is: We are part of the universe. It is not the material world that matters, but spiritual growth and wisdom. Once you have gained that, you will view this world from a different perspective. A quest for material objects will not bring spiritual wisdom.

There is no absolute truth. We all see things from the perspective of our own personality and experience. I encourage you to listen to your brother and support him in his search for spiritual wisdom.

Okay! Now I see why people here aren't understanding the gravity of the issue. I confess that I didn't put the details in my first post.
Actually, my brother is 19 years old. He is living as if he is in some mental asylum, he doesn't talk to outsiders, doesn't study anymore, talks about cowardly acts. I don't how to describe him but I'm sure he is not alive.

Do you know what your brother means by cowardly acts? If you think the group is grooming him to commit terrorist acts in the name of religion, you must speak to someone in authority as soon as you can. Even if you don't, ask around and see if anyone knows the group. Does it have a name, headquarters, a website?

If he is being taught that suicide is the way to achieving spiritual enlightenment, then you must speak to the family about this, or someone in authority.

Those gurus are teaching him that life is miserable and therefore he is getting attracted to suicide. If we take him to a psychologist then he will surely leave us (he doesn't admit that something is wrong with him)

I think he was depressed and vulnerable before the spiritual people came in but they sound like quacks. I understand your concern. Try to talk to him about this the way you’ve described it here. Ask him what has changed and what he’s thinking.

Yes he was depressed. His father is having some issues with his uncle (means his father and his father's brother are fighting for some will left over to them) and my brother's uncle is more successful and therefore situations are tough.

P.S. : In India we call even our cousins as brothers and we have same noun for them ''bhai"
