I keep having anxiety and intrusive thoughts about people stabbing me. I don't know why because I have never had a traumatising experience to do with knives. It just terrifies me.

Today, my worst nightmare came true as two men outside the shop I went into today came in to steal things and although I didn't see it happening or see their faces well, apparently they had knives. (Don't worry the staff called the police). Now all I can think about is how me or my mum could have been hurt and how I was convincing myself I was worrying for no reason but I wasn't. The one day I didn't worry about anything this happened. I am so terrified of the world.
I don't even want to leave my house anymore. I feel like my paranoia and fear is only going to get worse, especially since I live in a big city and bad things like people attacking others with things like machetes and screwdrivers have happened here and all the news articles about bombings, stabbings etc trigger me even more.

Does anyone else get anxiety about people hurting them in this way? I need to know I'm not alone. I have panic disorder, gad, ptsd and depression. I feel like I'm sinking deeper and deeper into a hole I can't get out from. I'm going to try talking therapy again soon but I am scared if get better and I stop worrying as much, the bad things are going to happen.
Please help, I feel like I am going insane.

You're not alone. I have the same issues as you. I dont have this particular issue about myself, but I have intrusive visions and thoughts about harm coming to my youngest child. Some visions are so visually disturbing they are very much like a flashback of something that didnt happen, but appear to me as if they did.

When my anxiety is heightened these thoughts are worse. It sounds like your anxiety has been triggered into a heightened state, so maybe your similar in that sense?
Try meditation and calming yourself. Maybe if you can pull your anxiety down from its heightened state, your intrusive thoughts will calm down and be easier to manage.

In the meantime, avoid news articles. Each time these thoughts come try and distract yourself. Somebody years ago told me to imagine my thoughts as leaves on a river. They flow past and I see them, I recognise that they are there, but then I let them float past.
I thought it was a great way to view it and found it helpful.

Therapy can help. Sometimes if I cant bring my anxiety down by myself I'll need to use meds

I get the flashback type things too! They are probably the worst part. Sometimes what helps me is when I say the things I worry about out loud to someone because it gives it less power. I will take your advice into mind and try to distract myself more. My mum likes meditation so hopefully, she can help me get into it.

My doctor has referred me to IAPT so I will be getting therapy soon. I have had bad experiences with therapy before but I'm going to give it a shot. Thank you so much for your advice! Honestly knowing that I am not alone in this has made me feel a lot better.

You're very welcome. I'm glad it's made you feel a bit better and less alone.
It's great that your mum enjoys meditation. It would be a nice thing for you to do together too.

I often wonder about these flashbacks and I wonder if they're PTSD flashbacks. Because they say nightmares due to PTSD may not be a nightmare of the actual traumatic event, but have similarities in some way. So maybe the same can be applied when we are awake, too.

Good luck with the therapy. Hopefully you have a better experience this time around.

Research shows that medical marijuana can be very effective for anxiety. While antidepressants and therapy sessions are beneficial to some people, increasingly, medical marijuana is starting to become part of people’s treatment for anxiety. Medical marijuana is an all-natural remedy which helps to combat the endless worrying and nervousness that comes along with anxiety disorders.

Hi, this is a typical fear response taking over your thoughts, you've been that worried about this that your mind had fine tuned it's self to believe in the threat. you may have to see a therapist to help you

I am sorry you are so worried right now. The thing of life is that we are never certain on anything happening or not happening. My OCD makes me worry so much about something happening to my daughter in this world we live in. The thing is I can never be certain that it will not. This is so scary but I have to take risk in letting her go places with friends or even being at all school all day without me. Anxiety tells me not too but I have to let her anyways because she deserves a life. I do pray a lot for her because I know I am not in this alone.

I was wondering about CBD oil. I ordered some but have not tried it yet. I wasn’t sure if I should try it in the evening or morning.

You need full spectrum, i've got 5% concentration, i put 2 drops under my tong every 2 -3 hours, if your having sleep problem i would start 2 hours before your ready to sleep, then take 2 dosses
