Hi,

Did anyone receive any kind of brain imaging for their psychosis?

Did you have to ask for it?

Thanks.

Hi, do you remember why? Was it when your illness first presented or was it for an issue e.g. like high prolactin etc in case of medication induced cyst.

Did you have to ask them for one?

I had a ct scan when I first was admitted to hospital with a psychotic episode to check if there was any physical reason for it. I think they were checking for tumors.

Are you in the UK or somewhere else?

I just had blood tests in the hospital - not sure if it's normal for the NHS.

I asked the locum psychiatrist about it and she said they only do it if for example the patient has to see the endocrinologist and they recommend it etc.

But there's an awful lot of medical studies which recommend it for first presentation of psychosis.

Bit crazy when you think about it that they don't at least rule it out. Must be a cost thing.

I was a bit paranoid about what I thought was a lump at the base of my skull and mentioned it to the three doctors I saw when they first said they wanted to admit me, it wasn't investigated further.

All I had was a blood test on my first day on the ward and the nurse made my arm bruise up for over a week, she was shockingly poor at doing them, nobody has ever made me bruise like that since and I've had loads of tests done for possible side effects from the anti-psychotics.

In my case I doubt it was anything physical, I suspect it was my voice that had decided to show itself for the first time in my life and started to mess with my sense of reality aided by DMT and Opioids (Endorphins) that were being overproduced by my glands.

I even asked my GP if I had high amounts in my system but she said they didn't even test for that and I was in for drug induced psychosis so you'd think they'd do a drug test.

Another user on here said her bloods came back positive for drugs so some places must drug test? Can't remember her name but she was worried about the DVLA because of it.

Mine wasn't drug induced, only thing in my bloods was low B12 and that makes sense with my diet.

I'm going to ask for a scan tomorrow and see if I get anywhere. Probably be laughed at.

We put our son through MRI for his brain 5 days after he has been hospitalised, on our expense, nothing abnormal came out.

Thanks Linus, good to rule it out.

Asked the doctor and was told no but he was nice about it and explained why, and didn't make me feel stupid for asking.

Do you think it's worth going private? Can you even get one over here without being referred, even if you go privately?
