Mirtazapine. Has anyone got any experience of this?

Hi,

Went to the Dr yesterday & he's changed me to 15mg of Mirtazapine a day.

To my first tablet last night before bed as instructed as I was warned they could make me sleepy.

Whilst there seems to be less side effects then the other ad's I've been on I feel really strange today. Dizzy & a bit disorientated. Strange almost electric jolts going through me. Getting out of bed was a bitch this morning & I felt like I hadn't slept when I had a good 10 hours! Quite glad I've been signed off for the week now just to get over this.

It was kinda funny when my friend had to help me do some shopping earlier as I was feeling for want of a better word "stoned"

Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to have calmed the panic & anxiety down already, but I'm not getting my hopes up too much yet as I felt really down & teary this morning. Though I know the symptoms of depression (which I also have along with the panic & anxiety! Yay me.) can get worse before the meds kick in.

Any comments would be most welcome.

Thanks!:)
Hi! I was on this medication (45mg) for around 3 months. It did wonders for my sleep but I did often feel “stoned” in the morning.

I would like to point out it can make you eat more as I was eating a lot of food during the days!

I’m glad it’s making you feel calm though! Unfortunately this medication didn’t work for me!

All the best!

Vivid dreams increased appetite but really good at night- got used to it and it's the best drug for me. On 45mg. Took a week to get used to.

I take 45mg on a night and it does sometimes help me sleep but not always so i have temazepam as well. It does increase your appetite but not as much as some others like quetiapine and lithium which are horrendous for piling the weight on. Especially round your middle area

I'm on 45mg and it does work and side effects wear off quite quickly. This thread was started 9 years ago - might it be an idea to start one yourself so its more current?

For me the 1st night on Mirtazipine was the worst for how tired I was, but if you are on your 1st day give it a chance.

Personally its not right for me due to other side-effects, but according to my medical statistics course it is the most effective anti-depressant.

This drug worked well for sleep but I found after a while being on it the side effects became more apparent. I discontinued after 2 years due to increasing panic attacks and not being able to leave my house. Not discouraging you take but if you notice bothersome side effects please report to your Dr.

Am on Mirtazapine now for 4 months. I think it helped get me back to sleeping as Zopiclone and Diazepam alone were not shifting my insomnia. Still on 30mg as well as the others, and a whole lot more. It also gave me some appetite back but have not gained any weight after losing 25kg rapidly in a major depressive episode.

Incidentally, my psychiatrist told me it was more effective as a sedative at 15mg than at a higher dose. I started on 15mg for 4 nights and did sleep.
